Ah - the good old battleship grey Cambridge Audio livery. It was panned by the reviewers, as were the buttons on the CD player (they described them as reminiscent of poking dead flesh). Very unfair, b

  • I dunno, can i post this here? The leather was just an idea - making some matching wood pulls would be cool - maybe when things die down at M&O of course my speaker cables are too short

I had to search the thread and make sure you hadn't already posted it sir ;)

Holy shit! I've got 989s at home, but a double quad of Quads!!! How high are those ceilings????

Probably a 12 foot ceiling. IIRC each set of panels is about 2 and a half feet or so tall.

Nice stack. What is he driving them with, does anyone know?

I'm interested in what they had to go through for matching and refurbishing eight panels :o

It's taken from quadsunlimited.com the same place where Doug posted about the treble stacked ESLs. They don't mention anything about amps.

The done thing would be 8 Quad II-40s.

With four though, you can wire them as two series connected pairs per side, each pair per side connected in parallel and have the same nominal load as one pair with greatly reduced efficiency. But nothing that a beefy stereo amp wouldn't cope with.

i.e. the reason the Krell MRA's were invented. Well that and arc welding... :P

Imagine a show down between the quad stacked ESL57 and Sound Lab Majestic 945 or Ultimate PX-1 in a huge room dedicated to just the stereo.

Would there be any better way to spend time :)

I'd put my bet on the Soundlabs. That's as a patriotic Brit and a Quad fanboi.

Ahh but how about ELS57's with thinner membranes and mounted to a steel stand? Then we might be getting somewhere but I'm sure the SL's would play louder and with moar basses.

For a steel stand theres the triple stacked ones on page one of the thread.

Moar basses is the way forward. I love that my bedroom window rattles in its frame when I listen to Anything with a pulse below 35hz or so.

I need moar watts for moar moar basses though.

Emotiva XPA-2!

But not for a good while.

Living Voice Vox Olympian

If this sounds like the OBX-R with more better everything, I'm gonna have to start robbing banks.

Has anyone heard the MBL 101E? I'd be very curious as to how they would sound with their onmi directional dispersion. I think they look like art.

They do have one of the most unique designs I've ever seen.

I wonder what those flower-bud looking things on their speakers actually do?

Not groundbreaking or anything, but I like the way they've tweaked some of the usual details.

The voice coils are on the bottom, pointing upward. The tops are fixed. When sound is applied, the voice coils move (literally) up and down, which squeezes the "leaves", forcing them to move inwards and outwards. There are 12 of them for each driver.

Read the bottom half of this page.

Yeah, if I ever win the lottery, the first thing I do (after moving to a new abode) is to get a pair of MBL's. Not sure which ones, though. Probably either the 101's or the 111's.
