December 4, 200916 yr My SR-325i sounded worse with burn-in, as the bass went below the minimum acceptable level for me.
December 4, 200916 yr My SR-325i sounded worse with burn-in, as the bass went below the minimum acceptable level for me. How do you know it won't come back at some point? Perhaps it's a periodic function?
December 4, 200916 yr How do you know it won't come back at some point? Perhaps it's a periodic function? Wont ever know, I traded them + cash for a used Moon Audio Cardas cabled ATH-AD2000 which were better. Not sure what I sold those for...
December 4, 200916 yr How do you know it won't come back at some point? Perhaps it's a periodic function? Damn, it's like having an infinite number of headphones in one. Not at the same time, though.
December 4, 200916 yr How do you know it won't come back at some point? Perhaps it's a periodic function? It's just not intuitive -- materials don't usually oscillate in...well, in any of their characteristics. Except maybe things that have photosensitive properties.
January 16, 201016 yr Can anyone recommend a good amp to go with my D7000. My source is a Parasound D/AC 1100HD.
January 16, 201016 yr Less than $2K. But don't let the high price ceiling fool you; I'd still like to hit a nice cost-to-performance ratio. As a consideration, I currently have the HR Balanced Desktop amp and don't like it. I use it in single-ended mode only, and in that configuration the sound is flat, with little seperation of instruments and insufficient detail.
January 16, 201016 yr Sell the Denons and the HR and get some Stax O2s and a 717. Edited January 16, 201016 yr by Hopstretch
January 16, 201016 yr Why the need for the price range if you are just going to tell me to sell them? Strange. I'll reveal my ignorance: What are the O2s and 717?
January 16, 201016 yr Singlepower MPX3 with Supra transformer. Any truth to the HF stance that SP amps will burn my house down?
January 16, 201016 yr BTW, I'm not interested in any more DIY amps. I'd rather have a fixed person I can go to for repairs. Since I can do them, DIY amps won't work.
January 16, 201016 yr 1. Google Stax O2 and Stax SRM-717. 2. Singlepower may burn your house down and good luck finding one. 3. Learn to use the edit function. My gut feeling is to look into other phones for the money. D7000 isn't going to become different enough in a nice price range like that to give you a great cost to benefit ratio IMO.
January 16, 201016 yr Why the need for the price range if you are just going to tell me to sell them? Strange. Because you just made clear that you have the resources to do better on the criteria you set out -- if you care to -- than you are ever going to do with the Denons, which are not particularly good headphones to begin with. Stax SR-007 - Wikiphonia Stax SRM-717 - Wikiphonia Otherwise, you don't really have many more places to go with the D7000s. If DIY is out, then that rules out an AMB Beta 22, which would probably be the standard recommendation. On the tube side, you could try the Eddie Current Zana Deux.
January 16, 201016 yr I've never listened to Stax. We are organzing a meetup here in Salt Lake City, so hopefully someone will have a setup for me to hear. I'll look into the models you suggested. Yeah, figured the SP suggestion was a friendly FU to the new guy. No problems.
January 16, 201016 yr Yeah, figured the SP suggestion was a friendly FU to the new guy. No problems. I don't think he would have recommended it if he didn't think you probably knew better (ok, maybe he would). Don't be too upset (don't really think you are, but...), its still a better suggestion then most would have gotten on head-fi by far. Audio-gd this, Meier that.
January 16, 201016 yr The charm of this forum is that folks tell the truth, and we can be assholes with each other. I'm not upset at all. I still see SP amps in some folks signatures over at HF, and assume that they are still using them. I guess they rent.
January 16, 201016 yr I do still like the "SP Sound" quite a bit. If you are comfy checking the amp over a bit they do make an excellent option. If you are comfy DIY'ing the amp, finding an MPX3/PPX3 is as easy as posting a WTB for $25 more than what the last one sold for, which wasn't much.
January 16, 201016 yr I currently have a EHHA amp built by dBel, and I love it. But I worry that if something ever went wrong with it I'd have no clue how to fix it, and would have to go back to Donald with hat in hand. Maybe I should just be happy with what I have, but I'd like to know that I am getting the most out of the Denons. I actually think they a nice sounding headphones. Not near as good as my HP1s, but damn comfortable and better than average sounding. I'm considereing the ZD. That amp is highly regarded, and should sound good with my HP1s and the D7000s.
January 16, 201016 yr Smash the D7000 to little bits. Why the D7000 hatred? My NIN albums sound amazing in them. There is a Massive Attack song called "Angel" off of their Mezzanine album that is killer in these phones. Sounds better than on my Joe Grados.
January 16, 201016 yr Why the D7000 hatred? My NIN albums sound amazing in them. There is a Massive Attack song called "Angel" off of their Mezzanine album that is killer in these phones. Sounds better than on my Joe Grados. Because you haven't heard it on an O2?
January 16, 201016 yr Maybe. Turns out there are no Stax dealers in Utah. This is what I get for moving to a sparsely populated state. Can you recommend a reputable online dealer?
