i'm on a roll... the kgsshv

I will be ordering a Khozmo attenuator. Any more issues with reliability?

I received my Khozmo attenuator last week. It's the smd version, and it operates much smoother than I had anticipated or the Dact I previously owned. I measured all 48 steps with no surprises.

FYI: It took exactly three weeks between the time I paid for the device and when it showed up in my mailbox.

  • After 5 years from the time I acquired the PCBs and parts, I finally took advantage of the free time created by the pandemic and completed my KGSSHV.  This is the offboard version with +/-500V supply.

  • Not sure if we have a KGSS thread but I'll just post this here.  So last year it dawned on me that I built my first KGSS amp 15 years ago and something had to be done to celebrate that.  It started of

I'm using the 50K. There isn't a ton of gain for those who listen loud but I listen more on the quiet side. No issues so far.

I did get an email from them within 24 hours when asking for information yesterday.

They look very nice and I did not mean to imply anything.

The only thing I know about them is what people have commented here and somewhere else. There are a couple of comments in this thread too.

what email address did you use?

What do you mean? Attenuator impedance is irrelevant to gain, it is simply a voltage divider.

I found Khozmo to be a little slow replying to emails but everything was taken care of eventually.

Well... If you have a high impedance source, and a low impedance pot (say 10k or less)

you can loose a few db even at maximum volume.

Ooops. I meant to say volume, not gain.

is this with wire leads or PCB pins?

The product photography on Khozmo’s website is misleading and should be updated to current production versions, actual finishing is not as nice as depicted.

The 3 Khozmo SMD’s versions I ordered came with wire leads, I was able to order the leads at any custom length.

I measured the resistances for all three units, overall the result was satisfactory, not great matching, nevertheless nothing exceeding out of whack either.

In the past I’ve also used a Khozmo ladder type, the SMD version has a much better mechanical feel.

John, I am just about ready to order. Would you buy them again or would you rather choose a different brand?

I like the look of the SMD version more.

Enrique, I’d buy again from Khozmo, I’m happy with the SMD’s I ordered.

Thanks, just ordered....

matching can seem poor until you figure out what the difference is in dB

Wire leads. For each step, the measured resistances where within +-1.5% of each other.

Anyone ever have the lt021-10 voltage reference die? Had a problem with my PS recently where the plus side was only putting out about 40 volts. Of course it was the last thing I checked but when I swapped the references between positive and negative the problem followed

Anyone got the dimensions of the round type Khozmo attenuators? Infomation on their website is both sparce and not up dated.

Diameter is 45mm. Length is 70mm.

The thread length is ~8mm.

Is it for balanced? Forgot to mention that I needed the balanced dimension. Apologies.

For the SMD Quads I just ordered...

Diameter - 50mm

Lenght - 70mm

Shaft diameter - 6mm

Mounting hole - 9-10mm

i've been trying to get the same information.

to me

Hi Enrique

The square one in W45xH42xL50mm

The round one Dia50mmxL50mm

Its for a stereo version.

Mono is 11mm shorter, and Quad 22mm longer.

Both have allready threaded bushing to mount as a normal pot.

Best regards

I wrote to Khozmo asking for some detais. This is their reply:

"This weekend I will update my home page with new pics and dimensions. There will be also remote controll available.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am doing my wiring and have a nagging question: Is it safe to run wires under the pcb? Could the solder points get hot and melt the wire?
