  • After 5 years from the time I acquired the PCBs and parts, I finally took advantage of the free time created by the pandemic and completed my KGSSHV.  This is the offboard version with +/-500V supply.

  • Not sure if we have a KGSS thread but I'll just post this here.  So last year it dawned on me that I built my first KGSS amp 15 years ago and something had to be done to celebrate that.  It started of

I just wondered, has anyone got PCBs left or will there be another group buy? Thanks.

Unless I'm mistaken or something has changed there'll be a group buy when the new PSU board is finished. Any news on how that's coming along?

Could some of of you tell me how to mount a led push power button and how to provide 12 V for the led ?

Where is it possible to find nice knobs (aluminium or wood :ebony, other) ?

Thanks

Assuming you are running the LED at 20mA you can just feed the 12VDC off the +15VDC line through a 150ohm resistor.

Spritzer,

just a question : where do you find your led push power button ?

thanks

I got them from here but I just ordered a large lot directly from the manufacturer in China.

We are all looking for a choice of decent knobs,

I was put on to this Hong-Kong based supplier of a range of items, very helpfully by workstarr, which many may already know.

also quite local to me is Hi-Fi collective ( never cheap but do have a few useful bits)

of course RS, CPC and Farnell have knobs and sell in EU.

Here is the front of my future "F.Schubert KGSShv" project :

I believe that's Franz Schubert's signature...

Well, the power supply for my second KGSShv powered up without a hitch :) :

I am using the IXYS parts.

Nice work and pictures Enrique.

The 580v bias measures ok as well?

Very nice indeed, especially those Kapton. Who doesn't like the look of orange colored tape on high end audio equipments! :D

Actually, after your horror story I decided to go ahead and use it. Not pretty, but nobody is going to open the hood after is done.

Victor, I was too sleepy to play with high voltage last night and stopped before measuring bias. I will tonight.

EDIT: Bias measures at 580V and then slowly drifts upwards to 587 V and stays there. I figure that would not damage the stators but I am not sure.

Merry Chrismas t all of you stax people. Could anyone give some advice about internal wiring : for mains (size, gauge for HV), and signal (I was thinking about Jupiter cotton copper 26 AWG cryo) ?

i just use 22awg all around.  16awg for heaters.

Same here but I've switched to shielded mic cables for input wiring in the last year.

The difference is miniscule so no damage at all.

i also use 22awg shielded for that since the BHSE

Are you using multi or mono strands wires ? Silver or copper ?
