Why would pouring it through a cotton towel ruin it (as long as it was clean etc)? I could see the pouring it on top of water being a problem.

I have to admit, this was a question in my mind as well. I mean other than introducing a small taste of cotton, which can't be too bad, what's the problem? Or perhaps it was the water, and not the towel.
