Rhino | Digital Was news to me. Seems like a good thing generally, though I can't really see why the download should have to be more expensive than the equivalent physical media from their catalog?

What pieces by Bach do you consider to require exceptional individual virtuosity? I'm more referring to technical prowess than interpretation, etc. Opinions?

The chart colors are a little iffy, but if you squint the conclusions are pretty clear. File sharing hurts record labels and benefits artists. Not only are artists now making much more money from live performances, but their total share of the music industry pie is growing as the labels' share declines.

Is it just me or has Country music made a rather large shift? I'm a fan, but it's not exactly known for a tradition of embracing the future (not to mention racial harmony, gender equality, modern technology/alternative fuels, harmonious international relations, etc.). A single song, by a not overwhelmingly talented artist, but is this a sign of the genres future? Man, it's like a punk song encouraging love towards the previous generation - 'cause, you know, they tried. Doesn't happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JAH_V3gb5c

I'm currently listening to Lisa Stansfield's "All around the World", a tune that has a strong power to rise my spirits. In fact most of her first album can do that. There are many others, no matter how tough conditions are, that may help me to feel a bit happier. I suppose you have your own and may you like to share them. Some other Prozac tunes of mine Art Blakey - Moanin' Charlie Mingus - Moanin' Bob Marley - Three little birds Kool & The Gang - Celebration LV Beethoven - 4th movement of his 9th Stevie Wonder - Isn't she lovely

Hey guys... just got an e-mail about this, but sadly it's not coming to my local Rave. FWIW, the e-mail presentation was MUCH fancier than the website. So I'm in the middle of a mundane sheetrocking job, and as such you tend to have some fun conversations. Today one of the subjects that popped up was misheard lyrics. One of my employees told me that he thought the line in Kenny Rodgers "Lucille" was "with four hundred children, and a crop in the fields". Where the line is actually "with four hungry children, and a crop in the fields". This got us laughing, and I admitted that when I was in high school I had thought that Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans" was "Reverend Blue Jeans". I was actually disappointed to find out otherwise. So I thought it would be fun to find out what misheard lyrics my Head-Case buddie…

I know there are a number of people around here who really like Our Hearts First Meet and would like to know that her follow up is available... Amazon.com: For Blood And Wine: Rykarda Parasol: MP3 Downloads Just an amazon download for now (256 kbps), but I'm pretty sure the CD is in the works at a later date. Her official site is here. I can't say how much I love Our Hearts First Meet. The songs are stunning, with a western noir sound, and her voice is breathtaking. "Texas Midnight Radio" is the highlight for me on an album full of highlights. Downloading from amazon now... Will probably listen tonight. If not tonight, definitely tomorrow. …

Found this on the other site here. I used it to nab some Scottish Chamber Orchestra Beethoven. Just under $20 for a 24/96 studio master isn't bad I reckon. TW622P94 Linn Records - specialists in Classical, Jazz and Celtic music

I might as well make my first post here a good one. I want to see if this gets a bigger reaction here... I was turned on to this band from the "non-Opeth" part of the official Opeth forum earlier this year. After listening to them obsessively for the past month, I am curious to know why they have not gained more traction than they have here. Here are my thoughts on them: Out of Myself - One of my favorite albums ever!!! - The guitar is so expressive and full of sorrow throughout the album. It has some of the most emotional and beautiful playing I have ever heard (eg. The Same River, Loose Heart, Reality Dream II, and especially The Curtain Falls). The only …

This originally came to me in a memo at work. But it's a public blog, so it seems worth passing on. I don't have a good sense of where this fellow's views fall. Centrist, lunatic fringe, I have no idea. But I think I'll keep an eye on what he has to say just on principle. http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2009/08/02/the-concert-business/ Here are the first couple grafs:

Now, Renato is going to think I am drunk... and he is somewhat correct, but I just had an epiphany of sorts and decided to start this thread. If there is already a similar thread on the go, I'm sorry, but I'm not searching for shit at this point. Just doing a little spring cleaning and spinning some vinyl and I was struck by the perfect beauty of Stevie Wonder's 'Ordinary Pain'. Any other songs that you think are perfect?

For those of you who don't frequent Head-Fi, someone posted that Oldies.com is having a fantasy warehouse clearance sale similar to that other one. Some of them are SACD's, but don't just search on the text "SACD", as not all of them are correctly identified. Ends Wednesday.
