  1. Visiting Eleanor in Churchill (it's very north). Seeing some stuff. Not many other tourists during a pandemic.

  3. Forgot to post this yesterday - had a good day doing old-school manual labor after spending a good part of Friday helping my neighbor clear a small maple tree that fell over in a wind storm Thursday. They're selling the house in 10 days and didn't want the tree or debris to cause any issues with the sale. So yesterday I set out splitting a bunch of it. It's funny. The older I get the more I enjoy manual labor. I hated splitting wood when I was younger. Then it was time for Lily and I to make a cake for Andrew's socially-distant, outdoor-5-months-late birthday party that we'll host today with 5 of his buddies. Vanilla tie-dyed cake (pic of that after slicing later today) with chocolate buttercream frosting. Outdoor theater screen and projector test complete. I picked up a cheap Onkyo receiver off CL and will use an old 5.1 Cambridge Soundworks system for the noise. Should be fun and the total investment was less than $200 which seems insane.

  4. Anybody watching this show? Ethan Hawk plays John Brown. I'm really enjoying this. The young man who plays "Onion" is someone to watch. He may have a great career ahead of him.

  5. The mains traces are pretty close together and close to the output on the bottom so you might run into issues with that. I would at minimum move them to the other side of the board and add slots to further isolate them.

  6. L700MK2 did arrive in time... thoughts above, TLDR I feel it's excellent for those of you wanting a more tonally rich presentation. I'd also run it on Solid State over Tube and with the Dark Pads exclusively

  7. Maybe just put a voltage select switch right on the board as well, and only have 2 AC in (L/N)? EDIT: Also note that the 35VA/50VA trans use 1.3 mm pins, larger than the others.

  9. We lucked out. This brisket was part of a nine pound slab that Mary picked out and after the 16 hours of cooking and one hour resting is super tender slice it with a fork tender good. Some tri tips we have had never got to tender no matter how much prep and attention we gave them. But yes quality does matter.

  10. However, calling it "sexytimes" might narrow your options to Mr. Rodgers, or Elmo.

  13. I played a bit with my BHSE. The amp is a-m-a-z-i-n-g with my O2mkI after 717! Explosive dynamics, detail, realistic complicated rendering. I must say my listening education is missing in some areas to fully understand and digest what this amp is doing. Did some small changes: 1) Changed the Furutech Alpha power cord it originally came with to a DIY solid core Found the right polarity Lifted the amp ground (I know I know, I put myself at risk but the amp is grounded via the preamp and I want to avoid gnd loops) All above in one go, I'm not particularly keen on doing all those small listening steps, that annoys me. This change was quite prominent. The sound became even more direct and intense, more dynamical (had to lower the volume by 2 points) almost like sharply etched. Freaking intense experience, at some moments a bit too much. 2) Changed the original Head-amp russkie Mullard copies (with about 10h on them only) to new GT EL-34M, grade 7. At first listen after biasing the change was in somewhat opposite direction to the above. More relaxed sound, less intense, a bit lower in volume, but with a beautiful bass. Harpsichord started to sound a bit "electronic" though and less freaking detailed. Burned them in for 12h with pink noise (burning the O2's also). This opened up the sound and gave it more edge and detail but not as much as it was in 1). Changing dynamic balance of my FR64 arm to a static one also restored some of the crazy dynamics from 1). Hard to decide which sound I prefer. Keep listening and experimenting. The source: EMT930 +FR64S+modded FR7f + AQ Leopard 144V + DIY EAR834 with a red tip Tlf 12AX7 at the input. All pneumatically suspended. Cheers

  14. RIP Joe Morgan. An amazing player and a sometimes annoying broadcaster. 2020 is fucking insatiable. https://www.mlb.com/news/joe-morgan-dies

  15. No, Behringer are deeply dubious, as are most of their wares. However, I decided that I would throw any pretense of principles away for a cheap 303 clone and (slippery slopes being what they are) had to get the 606 clone to keep it company. It's actually reasonable- I don't think the hats are totally accurate, but I don't have a real 606 handy to compare with. I took it for a quick spin with the modular: (Used the RD-6's onboard distortion, but ran the kick through a wave folder and low pass filter)
