  4. I only spent a few minutes with it using the new DCA and Shangri-la SR with an unfamiliar source so I can't really comment on it. No issues I could hear but I'd need to spend some more time with it. It's an impressive beast though. I forgot to mention I also tried the Warwick Audio Bravura... what a piece of shit that is. Now the amp was broken so no high gain mode available so I couldn't push the volume far enough. Still it is the blandest sound imaginable, it does nothing well and you can clearly hear the DSP doing its best to try and fix the sound of the single ended transducers. I suspect this will be far worse when the volume is pushed to normal levels. I actually have a couple of the Sonoma M1 headphones (dirt cheap now) and was planning on designing an amp for them (the Bravura uses the same amp) but I might not bother. They clearly can't work with a direct signal so my plan is to just reuse the housings and design proper electrostatic drivers that fit in there.

  6. I have never heard a 6 octave range from a male singer, until now.

  7. Those all would appear to be hideously priced, and I for one am not digging the vibe. It seems that companies are just charging whatever the fuck they think they can. Good luck to them. I'll stick with my Von Schweikerts. Might have a look at the new Schitt power amps however...

  8. Napalm Death - From Enslavement To Obliteration remaster (2012) Napalm Death - Scum 25th anniversary remaster (2012) Remastering proto grindcore strikes me as a silly idea. I had both of the above albums on cassette in the late 1980s. At that point Napalm Death were considered a death metal and/or hadcore band. I think it was nearly a decade later until I heard the term "grindcore." I downloaded a LUFS app for OSX yesterday and I'm going to run some of these remasters through it. ND is an amusing band, but they're not really my cuppa these days. With that said, one of their founded members went on to form a group I really like: Godflesh - Streetcleaner 2CD remaster (2010). This really is one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard. I remember first hearing on college radio in '89. That was a time period when: (A) I was listening to a lot of metal. (B) I was listening to a lot of college radio. (C) Both were experiencing a renaissance. Revisiting Streetcleaner, it has aged like a fine, dystopian industrial metal wine. Godflesh - Slavestate, original 1991 version. There is a 2013 remaster, but I have not heard it. An almost funky and danceable EP compared to the mechanical gloom of the previous album. I actually didn't like it much when I first got in '91, but it's now one of my favorite releases by the band. I did not plan this, but every (non ambient) album I've listen to in the last month has been on Earache records. Funny what a hugely significant label they are for extreme music.

  9. Got 4 new power supplies for the iVac blast gates and instructions to ground the blast gates. All larger bricks and ac/ac unlike the originals I guess.

  10. FU V is correct for that kind of money...LOL. Great review. One thing that jumped out at me, though....I REALLY struggle not having a more analog tachometer and speedometer. I know I'm an old fart, but we have owned appliances that are all screens / touchscreens and it can end very badly when things stop working.... It's Italian after all. HS

  11. I have heard both o/96 and fleetwood deville. If I have to compare the sound of the o/96 to your soul supreme, I would say that the Zu has a faster transient response than the o/96. Zu has bit more energy in the upper midrange. o/96 has more dynamics, more bass quantity and better quality bass. o/96 has wider sound stage than the Zu. Has that Oomph factor. Has a smoother treble and upper midrange and feels like overall more balanced across the whole frequency region. Both have quite large image size. o/96 needs bigger room to breathe and harder to set up properly than the Zu. Fleetwood Deville is a sweet sounding speaker, it has a more polite and gentle sound compare to the Zu, but has a wider sound stage. It lacks dynamics and bass compare to the o/96 but it has little more bass quantity than the Zu soul. It sounds lively but not as much as the Zu. This speaker is easier to place and set up compare to the o/96. o/96 needs quite a room to breathe and needs lot of distance between the front and the back wall + quite a bit of listening distance but Deville is more room friendly if you have a smaller space. You can listen for a long periods of time without a listening fatigue as it does not emphasize on the upper midrange compare to the Zu or even the o/96. Deville is the hardest speaker to drive compare to o/96 or the Zu because with either, you can pair it with single ended low watt tube amps but not the Deville. But it is still relatively easy speaker to drive compare to most speakers on the market. They will be fine with push pull tube amps. I have not heard the o/baby but heard the o/93. If you have any questions your welcome.

  13. A one-off Bob Dylan recording could sell for £1m "I don't look at this as a replacement for anything," he says. "I just look at it as another arrow in the quiver for every musician in the world [and] a whole new way of earning a living that we've never had before." https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-62054616

  15. I have an ex-work-colleague who's good friend was caught up in that crap, and he's in jail now. He wanted to be a MA State Trooper but was getting too old, so someone suggested he try for Baltimore PD. He got in, and stayed pretty clear of the bad crap. But it roped him up, in that he got calls by crooked cops asking him to bring a spare gun to a scene and the like. And even though he didn't, the records show he got those calls so he was included in the prosecutions. A really sad state of affairs....
