  1. As I mentioned a while back, I've been getting more familiar with the combination of my D200 and 300mm F/4. Taken through my kitchen window, which often results in a hit to the contrast. In this case it wasn't so bad. The same two deer, two days in a row. Quack, quack. A very technically flawed photo, but a rare case where I caught the great blue heron with his wings open. They are giant birds.

  2. We've Just Begun by Sinne Eeg (2020) https://album.link/i/1494993623 Example: New to me. Well recorded albums, I am poking around some of the others, I like the combo of big band and more intimate vocals.

  3. Went to London today to see The Duchess, with Jodie Whittaker. (She was the only female Doctor in Dr Who, and was in Broadchurch) Modern setting of the early 1600's original play. Only partly successful in a modern setting, but a shocking and unsettling last 45 minutes. The Duchess's deranged brother ends up putting a gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger. There was a spray of blood from the back of his head - I have no idea how they did that. In the movies they use an electrically triggered blood capsule, but I've never seen that on stage before. So a play where everyone dies apart from one - the assassin, now reformed, who agrees to bring up the (dead) Duchess's son. https://trafalgartheatre.com/shows/the-duchess/

  4. Quite interesting to see the difference between road car and race car. A good portion of the time difference is the tires but certainly not all

  7. Base model Mac Mini for $499 (click the coupon box) and possibly another 5% off with an AMZN Visa: https://amzn.to/3V6uZNd I just bought one, in spite of my objections to a 256GB system drive.

  8. So you take a slab of smoked pork belly, cube it up, and then deep fry it. Making them cracklin like.

  9. ^I watched that one some time ago and I don't even remember what it was about. I'm getting old I guess. This is one of the most upsetting things I've watched in some time

  11. Joanne wanted "something fun" to watch last night, so rather than the antics of a superannuated pugilist, I recalled Kate mentioning this on the couch on a recent episode of Graham Norton, so. An early Christmas movie, with implausibly cute young looking leads. (Edit: Sony product placement, and a very sparse looking Google homepage) Fitted the bill, with some surprisingly meta exposition from a sprightly Eli Wallach as an aging Hollywood screenwriter. Picture postcard English scenes. Fun.

  12. Yeah, that is quite sad. We bought a season ticket the winter of 2222/23 so we went there a few times a week. The gap they are filling up in the second picture is indeed the walkway to the lagoon... and those guys are utterly nuts for working so close to the lava
