Dorothy and Corrinne were already planning to drop off tests and food and I added mucinex and suggested the crazy idea of asking you what you want rather than guessing and overdoing it, which is their default.2 points

Al's Sister Corrine is bringing me some easy meals, fruits, Musinex and tests. I'm guessing someone read and passed on the news. Good friends are my wealth!2 points

A Long, Hard Look at America https://www.newyorker.com/culture/critics-notebook/a-long-hard-look-at-america https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2025/feb/12/rijksmuseum-amsterdam-american-photography “For them the big names – Edward Weston, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Richard Avedon – they are part of the history of the country, they are part of the image culture of the country, and for them these names are the same as Rembrandt and Vermeer for us Dutch.”2 points

Late condolences, Steve. Can’t really even imagine. I’m so very glad that you were able to speak with her and were able to get some closure.1 point

A commenter on Imgur thought the trombonist was Tyree Glenn as well. Also the system was stereo and was set up to record. It was installed at the request of Lucille Wilson while Satch was in the hospital. https://virtualexhibits.louisarmstronghouse.org/2020/07/31/louis-armstrongs-1969-1971-tapes-reels-1-5/1 point

I keep my (now nearly 20 year old) Nikon D200 and 300mm F/4 on a lowboy chest in the kitchen, ready for whatever fauna shows up. Mr. Cardinal, being his usual show-off self. The pond froze for a preciously small period of time. Missing from these photos is the excited "roof roof roof!" noises that green sweater dog kept making. The sounds echoed off the ice and trees surrounding the pond. It was quite a scene to behold. Tune in next time for a 2006 logging camp!1 point

Looks like my long-serving Quads have decided to stop working. I haven’t tried to disassemble the offending one. But there’s definitely been an intermittent issue where it wouldn’t play without power cycling, and that has appeared to turn fatal and now it won’t turn on. I was only able to enjoy these because of the deal I got on them from Todd. So I didn’t know what people have for experience with some of these newer brands/models. I have a pair of Audioengine A2s at work, which needless to say, are several steps below. But with the market flooded with lots of reasonably priced options, does anyone have any recommendations for active monitors? I don’t know that I have a hard budget, but I’d like to keep considerations below $4-500. Thanks!0 points

Tried testing for Covid last night. It was unsuccessful, because the liquid in my test had almost entirely evaporated. I would kill for some Musinex. It's the only thing that seems to help with all symptoms, including a cough for me. I don't see myself making the trip to a store though.0 points

I've had covid twice now. It was just a stuffy nose. As far as I know I've never had the flu. Colds are also just a stuffy nose. I never get the aches people talk about. However, whatever this is it's really kicking my ass! I feel like I've been hit by a train. I ache all over, I can hardly breath, I'm coughing and my eye sockets are sore, if that makes any sense at all. If this is what normal people go through I'm so sorry for that. I had no idea! This is going to sound completely stupid and nonsensical, but in a weird way it's making me feel closer to my Mom. She sounded like I now feel, and it just makes me empathize more. Maybe I'm just delirious. I'll get through this just fine, but I will be a bit more patient when someone is complaining about their flu symptoms.0 points

Got some sleep, however, the tickle I started feeling in the back of my throat yesterday afternoon has now developed into a full blown sore throat, cough, congestion and dull ache/tightness behind my eyes. Hard to describe. I really wanted to stay occupied with work. Maybe the upside is this cold/covid/whatever will make me sleep. I always knew that losing my Mom would be hard to handle. I'm a pretty independent guy, but we had a very special relationship, as so many men do with their Moms. Especially gay men. Dogs are amazingly sensitive. Maki is very aware of my sadness, and will not leave my side. She usually occupies herself playing in the yard, checking in on me every now and then. Last night she was glued to me. This morning she hasn't even gone out to pee. She is a comfort.0 points

Longest day at work ever! Got 20 minutes of sleep last night. And of all of the days, two employees almost went blow to blow with each other right before opening. The cashier screamed for me to come break them up. Reasoning did nothing, they wouldn't let up. I literally had a melt down. Fell to my knees sobbing. They stopped then, probably wondering WTF! Anyway, I made it through the day. Hoping for some sleep tonight.0 points

That's my Mom Last night I called my Mom because I hadn't heard from her in a few weeks. She sounded terrible and told me she'd been sick for a few weeks. It was obvious that she was having a hard time talking, so I told her that I loved her, and that I'd check on her tomorrow. 15 minutes later my Brother called to tell me that she passed. I told him that I had just hung up from talking to her. He said that makes sense. He's convinced that she was holding on until she could talk to me. I'm so fucking glad that I called when I did!0 points
