  1. The current 007Mk2 is excellent and an upgrade over the Mk1 really (once port modded) and that would still be my top choice. The only ones which can reproduce the full range without any issues. The top end on the current Mk2's is improved and amps like the Carbon means they are not dark at all. The 009's are too bright and even when fitted with EP-007 earpads they are just grating to me. The earpad change has helped though, they are now more dynamic and not as uninvolving as the 009's have always been. As for the 009S's, they are growing on me with the older 009 earpads plus I did some small tweaks to improve the sealing. They are still bass deficient but at least the top end doesn't make me want to cut off my ears... It's nice open top end and with the older pads they have a bit more focus which the stock setup really lacks. While I've been digging around in the 009's (both sets) I just wonder why Stax did certain things. Why isn't the housing more substantial? Why is that crummy glued on bit next to the cable entry? Wasn't there some better way to make a baffle than this hackjob?

  4. No disagreement from me on the watch. Someday I hope to own an ALS, although probably not that one as it's well North of $100,000! Watchfinder the company was the biggest used/grey market watch dealer in the UK, with a couple of showrooms in London and elsewhere. Their main advantage was you could actually go in to see their watches in the metal and try them on, versus the Internet dealers where you were trying to judge condition etc. from photographs. Flip side was that they were considerably more expensive. Anyway, they were recently bought out by Richemont, one of the largest luxury conglomerates in the world and the owners of A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Vacheron Constantin. The deal was seen as an acknowledgement by the primary luxury watch manufacturers of the growing importance of the secondary market (and an intention to get a piece of it, thus gaining some control over the channel). It also opens up some interesting opportunities for cross-promotion, as (likely) seen above.

  8. RIP Sgt. Saman Kunan who died during the rescue of the 12 soccer players and coach from those flooded caves. What an awful way to go! But in the end, what a wonderful outcome when the last of the trapped were freed and lifted off to the hospital!

  9. RIP Steve Ditko. Reclusive, religious, and the inspiration to several generations that followed him with his psychedelic artwork.
