Almost all my time off is used for coaching, so I rarely get to go fun places. Having said that, one of the athletes I coach had a hell of a season and as a result I get an all-expense paid 4-day trip to Tallahassee for NCAA Regionals. First time in Florida. And if she does well there I'll be going to Des Moines two weeks after that for NCAAs. And that's it for the summer... The rest of my time will be spent making up all the work I've been missing.

Also, I really dig the Texas Trilogy that leads off Disc 2 of Lyle Lovett's Step Inside This House... "Daybreak", "Train Ride" and "Bosque County Romance". And the best part is that those 3 songs lead to my favorite on the album, "Flyin' Shoes".

There's a 3-song stretch on the new Murder by Death CD, Red of Tooth & Claw that just go together perfectly... "Fuego!", "Theme For Ennio Morricone" and "A Second Opinion". I also love the last 3 songs of NIN's Still. "And All That Could Have Been", "The Persistence of Loss" and "Leaving Hope" are another amazing 3-song run.

Fail. I would argue that they are comparable only in the most superficial ways... I fail to see anything beyond a (mediocre) supernatural serial drama in Charmed, with no greater scope or focus. Buffy, on the other hand, can be enjoyed on multiple levels. While it wasn't always successful, Buffy was far more ambitious and as a result, it gets the benefit of the doubt with respect to its few missteps (of which I don't include Dawn, for the record).

A friend of mine had a bike accident happen right in front of her folks' house last year at Thanksgiving. It was a back road and he was doing 80+, lost it on an easy bend after hitting some sand and hit a tree with no helmet. She's an AT and has some EMT training and went running out. Needless to say it was a mess. She can handle quite a bit, but it was too much for even her. She said it looked like the watermelons in a Gallagher show.

I loved how Kevin acted in character the whole time, yet it was completely believable that an outsider would buy that he's "special." "That's a button." Definitely a great episode.

Setup for the LinkSys was quick. Unfortunately it was also very loud. The fans were so loud that it couldn't stay out in the open. I pulled my old closed stereo cabinet, added a hole for wiring and it's tucked away. I'm going to monitor temperature in there for a little while and see how it goes, but it should be OK. I haven't transferred anything to it yet... I wanted to wait until it was set up for good, but I'll probably get going on that tonight.

I just picked up one of these to go in my new Linksys NAS200. Music and video library available anywhere in my condo FTW!

Sunday I read: Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill Great read. Couldn't put it down, starting it first thing Sunday morning, and pecked away at it throughout the day. Yes, it's by Stephen King's son, and yes, it's a story I can imagine as a Stephen King book. But it would stand among some of King's best, IMO. Reminds me more than a little of Bag of Bones. Definitely recommended if you like good horror/thriller/mysteries and a good ghost story.

x2 If I come into some disposable income, this would be my choice. I really loved the ECD1 during the time I was able to spend with it.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what happens in the hour-long finale. Season 4 has been a bit uneven... The hour-long episodes to start, then some up and down after the strike. But what I love is that even at its worst, it's better than almost everything else on TV. And when it's good, it's among the best.

It may (I won't argue the merits of burn-in), but IMO it sounds pretty damn good as it sits
