  1. Good luck, Shelly, hope nothing bad comes home with you.....
  2. I have some old Mission speakers with tweeter on the bottom. Only thing I'd consider is to pull them out to the edge, see how they sound there. Thinking/wondering there may be some reflections off the top of the LP rack with the tweeter so close.
  3. ^^^ Need to check that out! Me: Lamb - Backspace Unwind (Special Edition from Pre-Order). Came yesterday. Liking......
  4. Yes, thoughts and prayers indeed. Heard that, due to elevation, winds even worse. My brother-in-law got out, he was there on business and wasn't scheduled originally to leave until this coming Thursday. All flights booked, but after many trials/calls, he got on a cancellation for a Boston flight, then home to NY.
  5. Dang....Happy Birthday Iain!
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. Didn't see the game, watched the Bruins lose to the Habs and the Patriots ALMOST fuck up another Jets game.... Congrats SF!
  9. I remember the email list Thunderstone Audiophile, led by Thorsten Loesch, now of AMR. He offered a lot of high quality sounding but cheap cable designs on that list. One of them was an active shield cable. Tom Kenny of Aural Thrills Audio created several cables off that design, I got a couple pairs as cheap demos. As JP# mentioned above regarding his thoughts, there may have been some expectation bias, but I definitely heard less noise with the batteries in (or in the case of one cable, the DC power wall-wart plugged in). What I wasn't sure of but thought I experienced was better image focus, IE placement of instruments and voice in space. BTW, this was with analog IC's, not digital cable. Call it hi-fi review BS, but that was my experience. I never followed up on these designs, because the price for the brand names was always pretty high for the value IMO. Even the cheaper Audioquest DBS stuff was more than I wanted to pay.
  10. I like the HAP-Z1-ES a lot, a nice all-in-one unit. The Auralic Vega still gets more out of the music IMO, but the Sony is a definite winner. Do wonder what mods will do to the output stage, supposedly its weakest link. The cheaper Sony, with the built in amp, may also be quite nice, even if used as source-only. I can't remember for sure, but I think it lacks the ability to re-sample all input to DSD. But for straight DSD playback, may be about as good as the HAP-Z1-ES. Question, one I haven't really researched: what is the availability of DSD/DSF files as compared to SACD discs? Not that discs are readily available so much either, but not sure on files....
  11. Hope you have a fantastic day!
  12. Exciting game, even for this non-baseball-fan. Go Giants!
  13. I've even liked some of the cheaper Sony SACD players....the lower range of the ES series has good SACD performance, and if you have an external DAC you can run 16/44 out to that. I've done that with a Sony and also an NAD SACD player. Good way to test the waters, cheaply. Only thing I don't like about Sony's is that they won't play ISO's burnt from PS3-ripped images. Oppo and NAD should.
  14. EMC & RSA.....then again, maybe you're right!
  15. ^^^ That's on my list for today....how is it?
  16. Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga - Cheek To Cheek....or, 3 full songs and skimmed the rest.... Can you say sell out? And somewhat BAD sell out? Sorry Ms. Gaga, stick to your other crappy music.
  17. OK, one more reason to feel a bit old. Took Andrew to the Dentist this morning, fitting for a mouth guard. In the waiting room, listening to the music and reading a book on the iPad. An Echo & The Bunnymen song came on. Yup.....one of the bands I like from the late 70's/early 80's is playing in a Dentist office..... (and it was not accompanied by other good music)
  18. Remember that, incredible as well. I had shown the Hurt video to a woman I work with, big fan. She WAS in tears.....
  19. Wow......thanks for posting that Wayne. Nearly brought me to tears......
  20. We found a local dealer (Southern NH) who beat ADT's monthly rates by more than 1/2. They had a cost to install devices (where ADT will sometimes offer free or discounted installation), but it wasn't outrageous, and those devices were also built better than some of the cheaper plastic ADT devices as well. What I DID like about ADT is the extra services they provide (remote access and monitoring) that this local company doesn't. But as Chris mentions, you can do some things on your own. Oh, and the monitoring company kicks ass too. I've heard stories from 3 different ADT users that they get the check-in call after setting off an alarm accidentally. Multiple times, it took almost 5 minutes to get the call. Our guys, almost always 30 seconds or less.
  21. Thanks all....the odd/interesting part is that he wasn't conversational at all in Hebrew..... I also remember a bunch of years back, Howard Stern had these two guys on who claimed they had a bit of JFK's flesh (from his assassination day) preserved in a bottle. I remember thinking that one sounded like my uncle, and sure enough it was him; they had pranked Stern.... EDIT: found the video clip for anyone that cares to watch all or part of it, and also found out as a result that Howard Stern WAS in on it from the beginning......I had actually never heard the whole story; knew it was a prank obviously, but never knew it was arranged with Stern ahead of time.
  22. RIP to Ronald Schultz, my uncle. Lived a simple and decent life in Willingboro NJ; a father, teacher, theater performer and director, and even screen actor. And just one of the warmest and most wonderful people I'd ever met. He played the Hebrew School teacher in the movie A Serious Man. And had some parts in other movies as well. RIP Uncle Ronnie! Will miss your smile, your laugh, your hugs, and that huge nose of yours!
  23. Ha....both my cats are nudge kitties, Dusty
  24. ^^^ Cool, I managed to get some MP3's of that album, will need to listen tomorrow if work schedule allows
