  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. I especially like who uploaded it. It really furthers his message...

  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. Yeah, Mike Portnoy was 86ed when the music apparently took a turn to not need drums in it according to an interview here: http://legacy.roadru...wsitemID=148615 That said, according to Wikipedia, 20% of it will have drums, and Gavin Harrison will perform those duties. I have to say, this is good news to me, and Portonoy is a joke and has been for a while (though he was fantastic during early DT albums). Gavin, on the other hand, was and is pure gold.
  7. This better be good, or I'll be pissed: http://www.burningshed.com/store/stevenwilson/product/65/3699/ Heritage was an abomination, so I hope this is a redemption of sorts for Mikael. We'll see.
  8. We'll see how long it takes until that thread is gone...
  9. Love it!
  10. This is all over my school. With all of the meddling the industrialized nations have done to Africa in the past to make it where it is today, they (including us) owe it to Africa to at least keep garbage like this from happening. It's just a matter of time before parts of Africa become the terrorism capital of the world. An ounce or prevention is worth a pound of KABOOM!!!

  12. Another song from Anathema's upcoming album Weather Systems is streaming: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/155486-check-out-anathemas-newest-single-untouchables-part-1/ Not as good as "The Beginning and the End", it is still good. It's going to be a great album.
  13. Great article. I learned a few things - always a good thing.
  14. I guess this is the much talked about shit hitting fan amp thread, eh?
  15. Happy Birthday, DIY Master!
  16. Yep, I agree. The best part about SSDs is that, assuming the controller does not take a dive, the NAND is still readable if it cannot re-write any more. Can't say the same for standard HDs (aside from really expensive recovery services).
  17. I keep reading that with each NAND shrink, the number of projected re-writes goes down. I think it went from 10,000 with the first generation of popular MLC SSDs to about 3,000 now. I am sure that something will be done to remedy this, but I always thought that was an interesting tidbit.
  18. Yeah, it was rather nebulous! I am betting he was saying that for those that already own an MPS-2, the version with no internal power supply is a cheaper route, since getting one with an internal PSU is redundant. Now, I am not quite sure if any of the design has changed since that remark, but I think it has not. For those that do not own an MPS-2, the internal PSU version would be the equivalent. The only difference is that the MPS-2 can power 4 devices at once based on the number of power outlets at the back. I really do not think getting both will yield any audible results over just getting the internal PSU version.
  19. From the audiocircle thread (page 21): Quote from: MellowVelo on 5 Dec 2011, 05:21 PM Hi James, Is there actually a difference in the level of sound quality between the internal-PSU version and the external-PSU version? Or is the external-PSU version just offered as a convenience for customers who already have the MPS-2? If there is a difference, what is the difference in terms of percentage? I know that that's pretty subjective, but if the external-PSU version offered 100% maximum sound quality, what percentage would the internal-PSU version offer? Thanks! Hi, Correct - just a lower cost alternative for folks with a MPS-2 already. james
  20. I thought about that after I made my last post. You are right.
  21. I got a PM from a generous soul. I think I might go down that route. I'm sold on the T series. I can definitely get a slightly upgraded one (8GB and i5) for under $800. Just have to get department approval.
  22. This looks good: http://www.amazon.com/Thinkpad-T420-14-320GB-4G/dp/B005SSQ1QG Smaller screen, but would you say that the build quality justifies the smaller screen and HD?
  23. Carl, I will try to insist that I be the ad hoc IT person for the department. I want to have the flexibility of not having to rely on the school tech. That and the Deep Freeze program the school has is ridiculous. Since it will be department money, I like to think that our group will be very careful and take care of it, so hopefully no stairs incidents.
  24. Crappy, not sure we can swing a T series, based on the prices I have found. They all look to be over a grand. The difference gets a good head start into a projector. They're nice, and I will obviously not turn it down if I can find it for a better price ($600-750), but I am not sure that kind of deal is out there. Any good sites out there that have good deals? I have been out of the loop for laptops for a while; I am more of a desktop person.
