  1. Wow these m80's are awesome. The tonal balance is excellent Killer packaging, headphones are built really well, pads are comfy, and they are much smaller than I would have imagined. Some odd reason they remind me of the jh16 balance...or even a vintage rs1 regarding tonal balance.
  2. 95% of the population probably doesn't even know what a headphone amp is.
  3. Well damn you Tyll - just snagged a BIN m80 on eBay. I predict it to be grape, watermelon, with a tint of cumquat.
  4. Wait, doesn't Skylab have something like this already?
  5. Sounds like you want some kind of value-metric to assign a number to the relative value of a can - sounds very Headfi-ish. Don't think that is tyll's style. Kind of sabermetric-like as well. VORP = value over relative player/position VORC = value over relative can
  6. Yah. No need for the conspiracy theories, but in our post singlepower world people are just trying to ensure that others don't get burned. I truly believe there is no evil agenda on birgir's part and that he genuinely is trying to be informative and educational on not only the design, but some of the business practices associated with cavalli. I am sure whatever issues exist are being communicated and hopefully resolved between Headfi moderation and cavallis associates.
  7. I haven't heard the cavalli stuff but I cannot agree with the gs1 being an overly bright amp or analytical. To this day still one of the best solid states I've listened too, a close second to my dsha1 for sure.
  8. What a great read. Gotta hear me those v-moda m80's, I have always wanted a portable sealed can. Considering my first headphones ever, the Bose triport (yes I know) were that style, amazing to read how quality options have improved.
  9. I've gotten pizza from Justin, but made me pay for it; therefore, all his amps suck and rays amps are the best (he never made me pay for pizza).

Damn you Doug and your science!!!

I am itching to hear the hd800 again - sennheiser knows a thing or two about designing a high quality headphone that measures like a dream. I'm with Doug in that the 1st time heard them they seemed thin almost shrill, but the comfort is fantastic, the imaging was insane and it's a very speedy can. With the right amp aka not over damping the already pretty well damped headphone I think you might be able to get something really nice going.

I have only used the f1 for what it was designed for, you know, single driver speakers, so I can't attest to its headphone or lcd2 driving capabilities. I like the lcd2 and one of its strengths is that it doesn't require heroic amplification to sound good IMO, compared to some of the other orthos in the market.
  13. I am going to piggyback off this thread and ask if anyone knows of decent speakers that are AirPlay compatible. Would be cool to have them in the kitchen and what not and send random music from the idevice while doing stuff.

Being an F1 owner myself (with the new output jfets mind you), I'm not complaining - I would simply say most users that are using the lcd2 are using something that is giving them the general idea of what they sound like.

Obviously I don't have the measurement gear like Kevin but I think it's a bit silly to start thinking FW to drive these things. No reason to start overhyping the power demands of these cans, they don't need that much to my ears to sound decent. Last thing we need are amp makers creating 50 w headphone amps.

    I thought back emf was a non-issue with ortho's?

Somewhat off the topic of original thread but how are the newer version hd650's? Apparently a different looking and sounding driver.
  23. http://www.bavarian-lodge.com/Site/Events_Calendar.html Drool. Gotta see if I can sneak out from in-law family time that day.
  24. Is that a radioactive symbol?
