    Canjam 2010.

Just a reminder to everyone here to make sure you register on the formspring link that is over at HF in the canjam registration thread. If you wouldn't mind posting as well that you registered in that thread (for those that can I would appreciate it, so I can keep the attendees list as updated as possible. Thanks to everyone for your support! This will really be a great event, especially to meet and hang out with you all.
  2. What's wrong with using marbles? (if you have carpet, and yes I used them, though I am not sure if their was an audible difference).
  3. I am with JP in that for that amount of money, you can get a really nice amp from other manufacturers. For 2K you could have a really nice custom amp made for you as well (which is the route I ended up taking). EDIT: After reading Hirsch's post, wanted to add that the custom route, as long as you can find the right person, can really tailor the amp specifically to headphone usage. Headphone loads are not necessarily the ideal loads for output transformers that are built to feed nicely into speaker loads, though I have heard great sound from them, such as the Moth/Eddie Current stuff. My custom amp, for example, uses custom made autoformers with a more appropriate stepdown ratio (I think 8K:32) that it will play nicely into headphone loads.
  4. Yeah I definitely won't be hacking into the original cable, especially after reading through your description of it Ari. Eh, I think I just won't bother with it to be honest. Though I do think it would sound pretty sweet.
  5. Eh had the wacky idea of running my HP's on the F1, but I would have to get them reterminated to balanced because the F1 is a true differential design, so the grounds can't be tied together, they need to be separate.
  6. Thank you Doug and Ari for hooking it up!
  7. I am trying to find that diagram that came with the hp1000's that shows a possible connection to speaker amps, thanks to anyone that can help out with a link.
  8. Arg my mobile theme went away:(

To all the foreigners, remember that when you arrive at the hotel, please PM/call one of the crew members so we can meet up and show you around town, maybe go into downtown and the city and get krunked or something. Last day of school for me is June 1st I think and after that I am all canjam fo sho.

    Canjam 2010.

Steve, PM me when you get in town. The school year will be done by then, and would love to come by and hang out with you and can help you find places and get around.
  17. Had a chance to check it out last night, as Doug stopped by with the amp, as well as his balanced solid state. I was really impressed, we spun disks all night and everything sounded killer. Considering what the parts count and what the total kit may cost, this is one sick of a deal for the sound that I was hearing.

^^^ I am no coffee expert for sure but I was always the starbucks kind of guy and when I had my first americano at Intelligentsia it was pretty amazing, yet also informative on how disgusting the espresso from starbucks truly is. Anytime my wife and I are downtown or in the area we always make a stop by Intelligentsia. I should check out Metropolis as well.

Inteligentsia is probably the best, highest quality coffee and espresso that we have here by far, and definitely the best I have tasted. Coffee is brewed by the individual cup, and their espresso is absolutely perfect. 312 is a chicago brewed beer, I believe they have an official storefront. The cool thing with chicago is the diversity and multiple options for stuff that is located on the north, west, south side of chicago as well as the outer suburbs. This is my favorite place for beer and food. THE BAVARIAN LODGE Its out in Lisle which is a suburb southwest of Chicago. The beer collection would impress a lot of you hardcore types and the food is very authentic german. Consistently voted as one of the top 10 best german places in the nation. EDIT: More random stuff, more on the tourist side Michigan Ave is like our version of times square but a bit more down to earth and not as crazy Walking down Lake Shore Drive on the trail or biking and stopping by various beaches is amazing in June. SuperDawg's - northside, or Hot Doug's deeper in the city for more outrageous hot dog fare (like foie gras topped hot dog) Gino's East for deep dish, downtown Our Broadway in Chicago scene is very good and I think at minimum you'll find the talent to be of similar quality, though I personally find the production on Broadway NY to be a bit better.
  20. Nate, I don't want to speak for Doug or Tom, but I believe it is going to be a pretty sick project that would be able to compete with the Starving Student for best tube based budget project, and something easy enough where even a newbie like myself could tackle it as a 1st project. However it appears luvdunhill gave away a nice hint at the circuit of the amp.
  21. Nice job on the review/description Tyll, very well put. Definitely would look forward to hearing one myself.
  22. Waiting at terminal ohare as we speak, so excited! Staying at best western times square 48th and 8th. Still looking for a nice steak place that the wife will find "romantic" for v-day. Peter luger's is out, hoping del friscos is more her style. Definitely need to hi up katz's, which I believe is lower east side. Chinatown a must. We're doing the free staten ferry thing as well, should be fun. Broadway - we're going to try and hit up those hottix booths early saturday. Jazz? That's where we are at.
