  1. Posted this before. Pelican 1080 I think...waterproof, when closed, a little thingy releases excess air pressure, resistant to humidity, its wonderful.
  2. The Aleph P is absolutely fantastic and incredibly versatile with multiple SE and balanced ins and outs. Plus it sounds awesome and is super well built, expect nothing less from a commercial pass product.
  3. I am pretty sure David is referring to his EC2A3, which is cap-coupled between the input 6sl7 and the output 2a3, then transformer coupled. However on my DC coupled moth si2a3/45H I did not experience any problems whatsoever with the EML's. I believe the older EML's especially when they were still AVVT were the last ones that had the stripping cathode issues and the current production EML;s are perfectly fine.
  4. On my set of EML 45 solid plates, it worked perfectly for a year and a half with regular use every day, and I believe is still perfectly normal with their current owner. The previous owner of my amp also used EML 45 solid plates for the same time and they never gave him problems. Just buy from an authorized dealer and you should be okay. I bought them from Tubes USA, George Lenz, he is an authorized dealer and offers 1 year warranty which I believe he actually supports and backs up.
  5. If you have the money the EML 45's are the best, way better than the American NOS. I only have experience with the solid plates but a lot of the reading on the web says the solid plates are a bit more neutral and linear. The EML's are super impressive not only in sonics but in build quality.
  6. Sold mine. Joe beat John for me. Great can and liked it but either I listen to HP1000's or speakers, don't personally see the need for two headphones especially 2 grados.

    Canjam 2010.

I checked the online link on HF< the group rate is still active. Make sure to say your with Head-Fi and it should be all good.
  8. Let me know how the hotel is, we are still looking for hotels and could use a good recommendation. Anyone out there in the peanut gallery that has a good hotel recommendation feel free to shoot it out. Times Square would be ideal but again our budget dictates under $200/night the lower the better if possible.

    Canjam 2010.

I believe you mean Monday the 7th, correct? If you actually left the 4th considering canjam starts the 5th that would kind of suck. Also, I am sure we will have some pregame stuff on Friday night, which can mean either listening or alcohol, we'll let you choose. And since it appears a lot of you will be there on Thursday, I have no issues taking everyone out and showing everyone typical tourist stuff, downtown, etc.

  11. We probably have the budget for one really really sick meal. I personally love a good, high quality steak house. Mexican is always good, pizza never hurts (though we love chicago style of course), and a good BBQ joint always is open to us, thanks for the rec. Central park, duh, thanks Steve. Keep em coming!
  12. The wife and I have a trip scheduled to NYC Feb. 12-15 as I don't have school that Monday. I know we are definitely going to see some Broadway show but other than that we are pretty open. Not sure yet where we are staying. Figured I would throw it out there as there is a pretty good NY contingent here.
  13. Nice score zippy! Beautiful amp. Some info I gleaned from Craig for any interested parties. "Equilibrato, and SE. Standard is $1760.00 including Sophia PX-4 tubes, and NOS 12SN7. Two input selector switch, unbalanced inputs, balanced, and unbalanced headphone jacks. Regulated power supply, regulated DC heaters. Very quiet amp. The SE uses the BA dual vacuum tube power supply, and dual high frequency isolated heater amplifier. It has two balanced inputs, two unbalanced inputs. Two three pin balanced outputs, and 1/4" unbalanced outputs. That amp is $2800.00."
  14. wow...from a functional standpoint, that is everything I could ever ask for from a source, I literally would use every single function.
  15. Mikey01 I believe...I hope he is doing okay, I know he sold off a lot of his EC Moth stuff way back when because he was having some serious health issues.
  16. That is good to hear. I know that I really should get into vinyl but I have been looking for probably the cheapest way to do it. I rocked 1200's in high school but as a DJ, so I was more used to beating the shit out of the 1200's with scratching, beat juggling and general mixing but have heard the 1200's are pretty decent as a music listening table. What kind of cart are you using, or what would you recommend?
  17. Sorry Nate - my normal 3g 8gb is perfect functional wise and phone wise, great volume and clarity, no dropped calls, etc. I believe you had mentioned service for ATT in your area was pretty poor, I live in western Chicago suburbs and our ATT service and 3G is awesome, that might be a big part of it,
  18. That is disappointing to hear about Sennheiser USA, I would have expected a higher quality, more informed and technical knowledge base. Sheesh, it appears I got better service and technical know how from an almost 90 year old italian with my HP1000's:palm:
  19. How the hell you blow that much money in Wisconsin? Have you guys seen Wisconsin? All they have is beer, cheese curds, deer hunting, snow, and the Green Bay Packers.
  20. 1) the switches look cool 2) People were able to hype up over the years that the HP1's were "superior" to the HP2's and HP3's. If anything, the HP1's offer one extra area where the headphones can go bad, and fixing the rat nest of wiring that is connected to the phase switch is a bitch and a half. John Grado will actually still offer to fix it for people as he was the one that originally built them but I believe he actually recommends leaving the switch disconnected.
  21. Gotta love good ole' Joe... Let me see, I sent my current HP's last May or so, and Joe charged me $300 for drivers and cabling and $50 for his "tune-up" process, which he mentioned was essentially his very thorough break in process, in which he hooks up the cans to the output of some oscilloscope and runs 20-20 frequencies at specific time intervals to completely break in and distress the driver. In addition he put some of his "magic" compound inside the outer rim of the enclosure. When I received the things well I swear it was the absolute best set of HP's I had ever heard, out of 6 total I have owned I think even two of them had received similar Joe treatment. When I called Joe he said he did every tweak/modification on mine that he had developed at that time, but when I pressed further he simply replied humorously that "he put a little spice here, a little paprika there, you know the usual". Reading through the above thread, I think the stuff he is doing now is essentially the same as what he did for me but charging $1500 vs. the $350 which was his more normal rate.
  22. I believe nikongod is the only one to actually post publicly what it looked like inside. I remember him posting that the UW was actually built pretty substantially, with some kind of cotton dialectric and whatnot.
  23. x2. I have had enough high-bandwidth cabled hp1000's to compare to standard cabled ones where the extended highs is clearly noticeable.
