I want to be able to put the files onto my ipod, and use the reader. Supposedly it won't allow that, not to mention I don't know how to actually transfer the pdf to the player. I have loads of research papers to read, and I like this solution instead of buying an ebook reader.

Stanza is pretty much a text-based ebook reader. I am interested in a good PDF reader, which will work files files you have loaded onto the device: i.e. without internet access.

Don't worry buddy, the ES7 is along the same general lines as the ESW9. The 9 is a bit more even in the bass, and has slightly sexier mids, but they aren't too far off.
