The HD800 is a pretty damn good low-volume headphone.

If you had to downgrade your entire rig to $500 ...

I got my first Stax Lambda Pro and SRM1/MK2 for $400. Scrounge hard for a Parasound or Adcom DAC and you could have a close to game over rig for ~$650. -

This. Thanks Jeff. I did exactly that and just picked one up for $575. Let's just hope I receive it. -
Happy Birthday, Shelly. Have a great day--you deserve it!

I see this one going 7.

Jesus, Lundqvist has let in a couple of softish goals from distance. It would also be nice if the Rangers could hit the broad side of a barn with their shots. Regardless, Caps just playing better.

Following up on this, for a kids baseball game, I find the zoom to 200 (300 would be even better) very very useful. If only I could afford a fast one. -

Hey wise ones, I have my eye on the Nikon 18-200 VR lens. The VR1 is significantly less expensive than the VR2 and I'm wondering if there are many, or any, significant differences. I saw some brief mentions that there is less lens creep on the new one, but that the VR is the same. Anyone got any wisdom for me? -
Little Monkey woke at 6:30am. Little league team picture at 8. Game at 9:30. Now he wants a playdate and Daddy wants a nap.

The pollen up here has been awful this season. Have fun. Post pics. I'd love to meet up, but I'm Mr. Mom again this week. -

Take a round trip (FOR FREE) on the Staten Island Ferry. Always my first suggestion to any visitor. http://www.siferry.com/ EDIT: And there's lots of historic stuff near the Ferry terminal. For example you could walk up through the financial district to the World Trade Center (and go to the memorial if you're in the mood for it). -
Sending good vibes your Dad's way, Al.

Thanks guys. I love my 35mm fixed, but with a kid, the zoom can be helpful. I like Nate's idea of a second hand 18-200. -

Wise ones: I am looking for a zoom lens. I currently use the 18-55 (non VR) that came with my D50 and it is a fine lens. I am not much of a photographer, but I know that I prefer fast to slow. My question is, can I get a lens similar to the 18-55 that is faster WITHOUT breaking the bank. In other words, what's a good, fast relatively inexpensive Nikon zoom lens? Is such a thing possible at $500? -
Happy Birthday KG

^ lol, well done. Can't wait for the Rangers tonight. First game 7 at MSG in a very long time and first hockey game 7 since the Cup.
