Dan, do you think the processor bump and graphics card of the higher spec'd model would give a noticeable performance increase for everyday tasks? I do relatively little gaming/processor intensive stuff.

I like the idea of getting a refurb, but I don't like the prospect of actually getting a refurb. I like my stuff new. I should probably just get over that. All that said, the one I linked to is pretty tempting, but I kind of want the SSD+internal HD. And I don't want to install it myself. Opening up the iMac is not fun.

I think I'm going with the 27" iMac. The only problem is that I will want to pop it open asap to replace the HD with an SSD. I am fundamentally opposed to paying $500 for Apple to do it. But is that the wrong approach?

So I'm in the market for a new desktop. If I buy through Amazon, I have a gift cert and reward points that will lower the price a bunch. But is it better to buy directly from Apple for some reason?

Danger lurks in this here thread. We generally buy Reidel for wine glasses--good bang for the buck and no one has to cry when they break. But tumblers, lordy, I have a soft spot for nice tumblers.
