May 2/3 - NYC - Stuff to do? Places to visit?
The Monkey replied to crappyjones123's topic in Off Topic
Take a round trip (FOR FREE) on the Staten Island Ferry. Always my first suggestion to any visitor. http://www.siferry.com/ EDIT: And there's lots of historic stuff near the Ferry terminal. For example you could walk up through the financial district to the World Trade Center (and go to the memorial if you're in the mood for it). -
Sending good vibes your Dad's way, Al.

The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.

Thanks guys. I love my 35mm fixed, but with a kid, the zoom can be helpful. I like Nate's idea of a second hand 18-200. -
The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.
The Monkey replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Miscellaneous
Wise ones: I am looking for a zoom lens. I currently use the 18-55 (non VR) that came with my D50 and it is a fine lens. I am not much of a photographer, but I know that I prefer fast to slow. My question is, can I get a lens similar to the 18-55 that is faster WITHOUT breaking the bank. In other words, what's a good, fast relatively inexpensive Nikon zoom lens? Is such a thing possible at $500? -

I remember listening to his show on WNEW with my parents growing up. http://www.ny1.com/content/ny1_living/entertainment/160152/local-dj-pete-fornatale-dies-at-66

Ugh, thanks Tom. Thought it was tonight. One more day to get psyched.

^ lol, well done. Can't wait for the Rangers tonight. First game 7 at MSG in a very long time and first hockey game 7 since the Cup.

Fair enough. i believe I crapped this thread anyway...

I don't like that Steve and Jim don't like them.

No. Go back and read my posts. I have no problem with the O2 mk1. It's my favorite headphone and sounds great out of my KGSS DX. I think it sounds like it has hollow mids on some systems. Full stop. End of problem, end of analysis. EDIT: But thank you for the recommendations.
-
Maybe I'm referring to mids as something they aren't. I noticed the "suck-out" out of the GES, the SRM1/MK2, and a rig where the source was a cary CD player. Maybe it was mid-bass I was hearing sucked out. Or maybe I just heard suck?
-
It's odd because I've heard the mids on the O2 have a sucked out, almost hollow sound when paired with the wrong amp. That also seems like a distant sound. But I don't think it's quite what is going on here with the HD800. I also notice that I tend to listen to the HD 800 at lower volumes.

Cable cynics will scoff because it's a whole load of horseshit.

Cool, I got 4 myself. Pretty good deal. I really like the CamelBak bottles.
-
The point about the mids is a good one. Sometimes they sound a little "distant" to me. Don't know how else to describe it.

CamelBak water bottles at Woot.

Thank you. Are you interested in my newsletter?

The Rangers suck.

Some of us are now on this phone for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. Perhaps there's a reason we keep coming back. Admittedly, I currently have a loaner, but I have to say that I think the HD 800 kicks some ass, especially out of the Luxman. Now, apparently, this HD 800 is modded with foam, toilet paper, and snot, so I'm not sure what bearing that has on anyone else's experience, but I guess I'm just saying that this headphone does not suck.

It strikes me that there are a lot of people who want to start at the "top" of the hobby, but don't want to take the time to save, audition, learn, etc. Instead, they want something cheap that they can say,"it's just as good as your fancy pants thing, you elitist swine." My point being, this seems more about the insecurity of a few than an actual exercise in good engineering. Perhaps this thing is good. If it is, I'm all for it. Cheap and good is good. But the thinly-guised classist rhetoric is tired and silly. Plus, it is very odd that this guy has yet to reveal his identity.

Well, keep in mind I'm a hypochondriac who is self-diagnosing. A doctor might refer to it as a "cold."
