I found that part of the article confusing. It's not clear, to me at least, that the 53% of $1B belonged to Beats. It could also be that 53% belonged to Monster, of which Beats is certainly a significant amount. Whatever, they takin' it to the bank, son.

I think it's pretty amazing that Beats is a $600 million company (at least). I had no idea it was that valuable.

Yeah, either with the thought that those with cash to burn would buy both, or that the more price-sensitive masses are more likely to want a high-end phone with less audiophile resolution and more bass. I think they'd sell a lot of "Super 650s" at $1000 without cannibalizing 800 sales. All conjecture, of course.

I guess I'm using "complementary" as a shorthand, if clumsy, way of saying, perhaps equally clumsily, "one dark, one bright."

I think Senn sucks not because of the way its headphones sound, generally speaking, but because of the strategic decisions it has made recently. It's odd to me that Senn seeded some forums with proto 700s, but apparently didn't listen to the requests from same about what would be a nice complement to the 800. As for what I've heard extensively: HD 25-1 HD 25-1 II HD 215 HD 280 Pro HD 580 HD 595 HD 600 HD 650 HD 800 Environments: all kinds, including but not limited to my own home. Equipment: all kinds of amps, all kinds of DACs, and my johnson.

Tyll, can you nicely ask Senn WTF they are thinking with the 700? Interesting, too, that they took a price increase on the 800, I hadn't noticed that, and then slid these in. I get that they're in it to make money, but raising price on the flagship so they can also introduce flagship light is REALLY cheesy.

Missus Monkey is at the show, Tyll. I'll tell her to watch out for the wild man in the Hawaiian shirt. Tonight, I installed 4 more gigs of RAM in my MB (not pro) bringing it to 8GB. Apple said it was limited to 4GB; OWC said different. It appears OWC was right.

When Missus Monkey and I first started living together, I decided to show how big a help I could be by washing the pots and pans one night, including the cast iron skillet. She wasn't too pleased about that part. I've tried to avoid cleaning the kitchen ever since.

Went to Danny Meyer's new Blue Smoke outpost, which is located a block away from us. Soft open, so only bar menu. Good stuff though, and they have Pappy on the booze list.

I like the green. However, having lived with green walls in a prior apartment, I did get tired of them.

In other words, I should buy the 27" today.

The retina display is appealing enough to me that I would wait for it. Apple should keep me apprised of its plans.

Does anyone think the retina display will make it into an iMac in 2012?

Justin, I like but don't love the black bar. It would be interesting to see a lighter accent color. Perhaps the blue or green in that throw pillow? Or even the grays in the pilow/rug?
