  1. I think I'm going with the 27" iMac. The only problem is that I will want to pop it open asap to replace the HD with an SSD. I am fundamentally opposed to paying $500 for Apple to do it. But is that the wrong approach?
  2. There's a lot of horseshit in this thread, but I think I'm going to buy a 650...again.
  3. So I'm in the market for a new desktop. If I buy through Amazon, I have a gift cert and reward points that will lower the price a bunch. But is it better to buy directly from Apple for some reason?
  4. ^I like that. Where's it from?
  5. Danger lurks in this here thread. We generally buy Reidel for wine glasses--good bang for the buck and no one has to cry when they break. But tumblers, lordy, I have a soft spot for nice tumblers. Missus Monkey and I received some Baccarat tumblers as a wedding gift. They're fantastic. Heavy, thick glass. I'm just terrified to use them... Finally, this thing has been a game changer for me:
  6. Because Steve Jobs is dead.
  7. iPad 1 is perfect for the Little Monkey if I decide to go for the 3. But I feel kind of meh about it right now.
  8. Whoa! Great news Tyll. Well if birthday activities keep me away from the day, I'll be around for shenanigans at night.
  9. ^ I agree 100%. I can't understand the people who side with the owners in professional sports, and football is the worst. Players are certainly greedy; the owners redefine the word.
  10. I'd love LOVE for the Jets to get him.
  11. Welcome. Read your Welcome PM and enjoy!
  12. iirc the blackgates were stock.
  13. How much did you pay for the 1100?
  14. It is with great pleasure that I wish a very happy birthday to one of my first friends in this hobby: Happy Birthday, Nate!
  15. Night by the fire:
  16. All good suggestions, and considered so far, but not necessarily dedicated "how to" tools. Or rather, too robust for what I seek. Skitch integrates with Evernote, so that might be the way to go, but I was wondering if there's a one-stop shop solution that is designed for exactly this application.
  17. My parents are trying their best to embrace the computer and the internets, but it's slow going. For certain things, I need to walk them through the most basic steps (e.g, where's the power button) and other more difficult steps (e.g., how to make a playlist in iTunes). What I'm looking for is some sort of program(s) that will allow me to easily post both screenshots and actual photos to produce a sort of tutorial. I've used Skitch a bit, but it doesn't have the greatest organizational qualities. I suppose I could create a Word document, but I'd like something a bit simpler than that if it exists. As always, your collective genius is appreciated.
  18. Happy birthday!
  19. Little Monkey's birthday, but I will see what I can do to join.
  20. That answer confuses me.
  21. I love your desktop, Shelly.
  22. Yeah, it's one big party.
  23. He lives in my building.
  24. Watching the Oscars. Dreadful.
