  1. I have the book this is from. It's an old sci-fi "encyclopedia" written in the 70's from the perspective of living in the 2100's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terran_Trade_Authority
  2. Lemon, lime, sugar, lemongrass, citric acid and cinchona bark in water. Making tonic syrup.
  3. Over my break, a friend and I did a dry aged strip proper justice in the hacked-together sous vide: 3 hours in the cooker then seared on the grill. Possibly one of the best steaks I've ever had and certainly the best I've ever cooked. Now I also have an Anova arriving Thursday.
  4. Mike, that roast looks fantastic. I recently tried a chicken breast and asparagus and the chicken came out better than I could have imagined. The asparagus was good but not exceptional. I decided I'm getting an Anova sooner rather than later. For Japanese curry, it was always a thing I ate growing up. It's best with leftover ham and whatever vegetables are available. That said I have made this recipe and highly recommend it. The only thing I couldn't find and was too lazy to make was the torigara stock so I substituted half dashi and half chicken stock.
  5. I got my hacked-together sous vide up over the weekend. While I was fiddling with it, I made a few just perfect poached eggs. Tonight I am attempting burgers. I used Adafruit's guide to convert one of my rice cookers to a sous vide. It's rather finicky, has a limited capacity and, considering everything, getting real close to the cost of the Anova.
  6. I went to the Dayton record collector's meet and walked away with way too many records. I have yet to listen to any. I am still jealous Mikey gets all the Feedbands stuff before me. I haven't been disappointed with any one of their releases yet though.
  7. Thanks to everyone who showed up, especially Jacob for making food and drinks. Sorry again for it turning into a bit of a cluster fuck. Next time I'll check the game schedule ahead of time to avoid all the craziness. I did actually get to do some listening at one point. Jim's Omega's out of the KGSSHV were sublime. All the delicious liquid tweaks made it that much better.
  8. We've decided to move the party to the hotel. This place here is crap and they haven't followed up on their promise of loading dock access.
  9. So for the folks coming. I don't expect people to show up at 8. I'll probably get in between 9 and 10.
  10. I have a friend who went there earlier this week and said the food was unimpressive but the beer selection was fantastic. Naturally, I am in.
  11. 400A. I'll try to be there around 8.
  12. Jacob, I will bring my tools on Friday then. It can happen. I probably won't get out of a meeting until 3 so the very earliest I can get down to Cinci is 4ish but I'll see if I can't reschedule. I think I met Peanut at Party Source's bar one day.
  13. I get out of class around 3 so I can head down any time after that to meet folks.
  14. Not sure but we have a private room so I'm going for forgiveness rather than permission here.
  15. A few updates: we'll have the meeting space from 8am-6pm but feel free to arrive whenever. There is loading dock access just in case you are bringing a dual-mono T2 and the room number should be 400A but that could change. I'll be bringing: KGSSHV: Topless Edition, Twisted Pear Opus, M3, Lambda Nova Classic, HD580, AKG K340 and some form of liquid tweaks Also up for consideration is my old solid state exstata. If anyone is interested, I can bring that too.
  16. I've built a simple circuit with a PGA2310 which is very similar to the 2320 but comes in a DIP16 package. The only things I haven't done yet are figure out the input and output impedance and how well balanced operation would work.
  17. That's what I've heard. The Party Source in KY might have it, I just haven't made it down there yet.
  18. I've been hunting for a bottle of Hakushu. Supposedly it's a slightly peaty Japanese whisky.
  19. Last week I ordered a Marantz SR5007 from East Coast TVs. My first mistake was not doing some more research into the company and blindly ordering from them. I thought I got a good deal on a discontinued product. The next day I got a call from a sales rep saying they were out of stock but he'd gladly get me a price on a 5008 on Monday. Monday I got no response. This morning I still hadn't gotten anything so I sent out an email. Got back from class and I still didn't have anything so I tried calling. While I spent 10 minutes on hold, I started doing some research and these guys run some shady deals and they definitely aren't authorized sellers of any of their stock. Also their discount they advertise is only for paying in cash, check or money order. When I finally got a hold of the guy, I just cancelled the order. Went with a factory refurbished model from a more reputable seller for a bit more money. tl;dr don't buy from East Coast TVs
  20. The "No Idiots" sign is going on the door, my KGSSHV still doesn't have a top panel. I can most likely run shuttle services in my car for those in the hotel.
