It was with great joy that some miles later he had been pulled in by the police. Sometimes there is justice. At that speed, around twice the legal limit, he would have lost his license for at least a year, and got a court summons and a whopping fine. FLASH.

OK, so I am a numbers nerd. I make absolutely no apologies for that The lamborghini covers half a mile and gets to 259mph. That is an average acceleration of 0.83g. Bloodhound does 0.6g on the jet and 1.3g on the jet+rockets. The driver, Andy Green is a fighter jet pilot, and those accelerations are trivial for him. The Shuttle on take off did 1.1g, rising to 3g and was maintained at those levels as a kindness to the crew - who were scientists and the like. The Soyuz that is used to ferry personnel to the Space Station pulls a maximum of 4g. The earlier, pre Saturn V, Gemini craft were piloted by fighter jocks who were used to high g. Those has a profile peaking up at 7g and pushed along to orbit in less than 6 minutes. So what accelerates faster than the breathed-on Lambo? Bloodhound. What has more acceleration than Bloodhound? A space rocket.

That is an impressive car. A bit insane to drive by the look of it. But this would see that car left for dead. Bloodhound SSC. This is the 7 ton beast going from 0 to 200mph in 8 seconds. Just using the jet engine and rubber tyres. I was there - it was bloody impressive. Next year, 500mph then on to 1000mph with addition of rockets. On the Hanskeen pan in South Africa. Performance figures. 0-500mph in 38 seconds using the Eurofighter jet engine, then after the rockets are operating 500 - 1000mph in 17 seconds.

A toroid will be just fine for what you are using it for. Audio applications sure, R-core is something to seriously consider, but for powering a PC I'd go toroid in a heartbeat. You're just after raw juice.

Ignore the low-current 12V, and parallel the 24V secondaries for 7.4A. No idea what the quality is like - Chinese of course, inevitably. Shipping is quite expensive - about $64 (I put one in the basket and requested shipping cost to the UK) - but it does weigh 2.6kg (5.7lbs) so it is a hefty beast. Just found from a google search. There must be other manufacturers out there.

Apart from its use as a PC linear supply, that is good value for a grunty supply anyway. The thing to watch is reliability though. If one of the linear supplies goes down and the other voltages stay up, what happens? Or if one of the linear regulator series pass transistors go into second breakdown and shove raw rectified voltage up a supply line. A bit of failure mode thinking might be in order.

Haven't got a photo, but on Sunday we walked the first 12 miles of the Oxfordshire Way - a long distance footpath that goes from Bourton-on-the-Water to Henley on Thames. Anyhow the main point was the heat. In the UK we are currently stuck with high pressure after high pressure, blue skies and sun. For three weeks so far, and forecast for much of July. So on Sunday we were treated to a temperature of 33C (92F) in the shade. Totally insane conditions for the UK. Who would have thought that only 16 weeks ago we had -6C (21F) with driving snow for a week or more. Something is deeply fucked with the weather.

Well, this is a fun thread in an odd sort of way. Who would have thought?

This is the brainchild of Bob Stuart, co-founder of Meridian. It really needs the - er - Meridian MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) decoder. The UltraDAC, which is $23k. But you don't need the physical media - you can stream it from Tidal HiFi, and go via Meridian's cheapo decoder that connects to your PC for a couple of hundred - assuming Tidal comes from there. If you go through a network connection, you need the UltraDAC. But it is downward compatible - you can play the MQA discs on a regular CD player.

The blower I posted pics of is definitely a replica - there are only two of the 40 originals in existence. But it produces 182hp using 10lbs per square inch of boost from the supercharger and a top speed of up to 120mph. Engine was a 4.4 litre straight four with twin carbs. Physically it was pretty imposing. 14 foot 4 inches long.
