  1. its dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
  2. Makes you wonder who else is keeping their mouth shut in the hopes of getting their thousands of dollars back. Does SP do a lot of business outside of the HF community?
  3. any love for the adcom gfa-555 ii? one on agon for $400, good reviews, lots of power.
  4. "I miss Kentucky, and I miss my family, all the sweetest winds they blow across the South..."
  5. he'll be back. having said that I'm glad I'll be catching him on this tour. he is probably my favorite recording artist alive today.
  6. I haven't seen any used prices on the 1000ASP stuff that are that attractive. They're all in the "might as well buy new and get the 3 year warranty" range. Glad to hear you might get a chance to audition mike, I would value your opinion. I have yet to read a single negative thing about the 1000ASP.
  7. thanks for your impressions sherwood! I also see that W4S has an integrated coming out. I've emailed them to try and get some info. For what its worth, Dan Wright has spoken very highly of the W4S stuff, but his praise could probably just as easily be put onto an 1000ASP based amp.
  8. win.
  9. Anyone ever hear the Wyred 4 Sound stuff? They use the exact same ICE modules as the D-Sonics, with a sprinkling of more boutique parts. I admit to being a bit turned off by them, because A) it seems like whenever W4S is mentioned on a forum, someone in the company registers and starts posting selly-gobble-de-gook all over the place, and the name is stupid. Also their amps are more expensive then the D-Sonic stuff. The top of line line 1000 watt stereo runs $500 more then the D-Sonic.
  10. win. looking forward to this.
  11. how do y'all like the bryston 4B? there is one on Avon for $350. not sure if it's stereo or mono, I've emailer the seller.
  12. whoops, forgot to post a snarky reply to this one. no, usually I listen to overblown bass and the screeching highs of a poorly mixed electric guitar, complete with muddy and echo-ey vocals. glad to see some of the SACDs are finally coming out.
  13. ooh, the Tempest has an onboard phono stage. I'm looking at the Odyssey page now, I didn't realize how damn inexpensive his gear is. Very nice!
  14. This is some sound advice. Thank you, I appreciate your input. ALL CAPS AND ZERO FEEDBACK MAKE POSTJACK SOMETHING SOMETHING I get the idea though, I'll put the McCormack stuff on my shortlist. I have to admit I like the spartan looks and sterling reputation for no-bullshit amplification. The Odyssey stuff is another HC favorite. It's been on my short list, just not my really really short list.
  15. Hi Paul, welcome to headcase! Glad you are here.
  16. right on, it's spammy, but it looks like it will be a good meet so.
  17. lulz
  18. So this exact situation just happened to me with my PS3. Was in the middle of playing oblivion when bam, shuts down. Same thing when I try to turn it back on, with the 3 beeps and all. I can't remember exactly when I bought it, I hope it was under warranty. For the record I have one of the newer 40gig models.
  19. I should probably re-emphasize that I'm pretty darn happy with the bass since I moved the speakers into the den. Not only is the room bigger, but its filled with "natural" room treatments, things like couches which double as a place to sit. Plus I was actually able to have three of my friends over the other day to listen to tunes, and we all sat comfortably. Really the whole desire for a new speaker amp thing is just upgrading for the sake of upgrading, wanting to eence that much more performance out of my system. Thanks to all for your input.
  20. and we have achieved the zenith of headphone cable ridiculousness.
  21. I understand what it does, I don't understand why people would want that.
  22. Found this blurb from a year ago: Stereophile: Quad Goes Platinum Looks sharp.
  23. I still don't understand the appeal of that fucking iTransport.
  24. The 22L says the nominal impedance is 6 ohms, but I get the idea. The 909 manual only has it rated into 8 ohms (140 watts). Thanks for your amplification impressions, just the kind of stuff I was looking for. EDIT: the 909 manual also says it is stable unconditionally with any load or input. neat, the buying one 909 now with the possibility of getting another one later is a good idea.
  25. Right on, I've heard about the 909 monoblocks, of course that could up my price considerably. I guess I'm not sure how much power I really need. Honestly the 840A's 120watts into 8ohms (Quads are 6 ohms so they are getting a bit more then that) sounds great, if it didn't I wouldn't have kept it for so long. Which is why I find myself asking how much of a difference more power or different amplification would make.
