  1. wonderful, thank you kevin.
  2. So it sounds like its not bright and horrible, and relatively inexpensive to boot. But deepak's post about DSD confuses me: does this player do DSD over the analog outs or ONLY over HDMI?
  3. Also, remember you can get tons of Grateful Dead for free at bt.etree.org.
  4. Jim, there is an awesome thread on the Steve Hoffman forums about the best of the Dick's Pick's series: My review of the Dick's Picks series - Grateful Dead - SH Forums MikeP is the resident deadhead over there, and knows his stuff. He also has another thread dedicated to the non-Dick's Picks live releases. I can't say if I 100% agree with him on all his ratings, since I haven't listened to the series as critically as he has, but I've used his thread as a buying guide and its steered me right so far. Personally, Disc Two of Dick's Picks 5 might be the GD disc I've listened to the most. ujb > estimated > jam > he's gone > the other one > drums.
  5. happy birthday!
  6. Ah, okey dokey. I see now. My switch doesn't totally prevent the earspeaker from swinging out, but I can see now how it's trying to. Thanks Dusty.
  7. Woah, so I just moved the pads, pretty cool. I'm able to shift the pads opposite the "switch" no problem, does the other pad shift out as well? And whats the point of the switch? The pads I can move move regardless of what position the switch is in.
  8. ha, no worries and no rush nato. i myself got a bit o' the old tonsillitis this week.
  9. So I definitely get the whole K1000 thing. Originally when I listened to them at Canjam, I thought they were neat, but nothing jaw droppingly stupendous. Now I see that, like the O2, the K1000s are one of those delightful cans that just continue to unfold goodness unto you throughout extended listening sessions in one's own rig. Of course the proof is in the puddin', and the puddin' in this case is a delicious and true midrange. Tweedy's vocals on the Sundazed YHF vinyl are out of this world, same for EJ's vocals on the DCC Greatest Hits. Guitar crunch and solo-sheen are gorgeous. There are some negatives. First, the tight fit on the skull. I'm a bitch when it comes to headphone comfort. I still haven't shut up about the K701 and I sold them two and half years ago. Having said that, the tight fit is not awful, just not super comfortable, and at least its not an idiotic design like the K701. Still, nothing beats the comfort of a plain old adjustable headband Senn HD series. Second, I'm still experiencing some fatigue after an hour or so of listening. I'm experimenting with toe-in to see if I can reduce this. But the above complaints don't change the fact that the K1000 has a midrange that can make men do stupid, stupid things. Not that I'm going to buy a crazy dedicated amp for the K1000, but I see how someone could.
  10. I have a date with Morrissey in Atlanta on the 7th.
  11. eh?! i love live music above almost all things.
  12. Derek Trucks Band - Already Free (vinyl) Going to see them live in a couple of weeks.
  13. Quad 12LA is a great powered monitor, popular around these parts.
  14. no. but to be honest, I do have a dream of one day simplifying my system. I'd love to make something like the dac1 pre work in my system. tt, dac1 pre, power/speakers or maybe even a 12LA.
  15. wish it had an analog in so it could be a true pre.
  16. Beautifully put Billy. Its taken me years (18 months maybe? so more like year and a half-s) to find an optimal setup for my speakers. With headphones you just plop 'em on. Not having to screw with a room is, to me, the biggest draw of headphones. But while sources remain the same across speaker and audio rigs, I'd say its easier to find a good cheap headphone amp then a good cheap speaker amp. Maybe I'm wrong here, but an amp like a basic M^3 is competent enough to handle almost any headphone, but some speakers definitely require more specific amplification because you have to screw with sensitivity. But I guess really you could grab like a budget NAD integrated and be cool for most speakers.
  17. yeah live and learn is all. not the worst transaction i've had on the internet, but their ineptitude is pretty mind boggling.
  18. orenthal james! happy birthday!
  19. gorgeous new cart Al! grats on setting up your first cart. to me it was a maddeningly frustrating but ultimately extremely satisfying experience.
  20. Email I sent to SL's customer no-service guy just now: "So I was reluctant to even try and return my faulty Domkirke vinyl, due to my past experience with the Boris vinyl not even being in a shipment I ordered, and my repeated emails on the subject to SL over a period of a year being completely ignored. Basically that was a free $17 for Southern Lord, but I chalked it up to bad luck and continued to patronize your business. BUT, the Domkirke vinyl really was unplayable, so I thought, what the hell, I'll send SL an email and see if they don't actually respond this time. I was pretty dumbfounded when you did actually respond and offer to resolve my problem. Should have known it was to good to be true, because I've received zero satisfaction on any of the three issues I have with SL: 1) My Domkirke vinyl is faulty 2) I am still owed a Boris Deep Red Pink vinyl or a store credit of some kind 3) I am still owed a Sunn t-shirt that was to be included with my Domkirke vinyl You claim you sent me the package via media mail in December. I don't believe you. Maybe you sent it to the wrong address, maybe you didn't send it at all, I don't know. I don't know what you all do all day, besides not send me products I pay for. I feel I have been more then understanding with Southern Lord in regards to these issues. I am not a rich man, and when I choose to spend what little money I can scrape together to support a small record label recording good music and pressing it on vinyl, I would think they would be damn appreciative of my business. As it stands I'm disgusted with SL, and have no intentions of doing any business with you or any of the artists you represent ever again."
  21. me. I never saw the dead but love their music. I'm an active wsp/phish/abb/jamband etc show-go'er.
  22. I'd look at the MS2i or SR225. The MS2i is very impressive in the bass and midrange, but the 225 is more exciting overall. But honestly its been quite a while since I heard the SR225.
