nope, not relevant to me anymore, but still relevant to the thread title. to update: i thought i'd try to fix my room problems with both different speakers and different amps, but all of y'all yelled at me and finally i fixed my room problems by fixing my room. gotta love this place.

I predict the 800 will conquer all.

You should also own "You are the Quarry". Another classic. "Let Me Kiss You" is one of my all time favorite singles. A few of the lines on the new album have made me smile, but I haven't listened thoroughly enough to know if his current witticisms match his past ones. I'll be able to tell you after March 7th if he can still hack it live.

Yeah, to me whenever I hear a headphone is "fast" like the 800 sounds like it is going to be, I think Grado. I think the whole line up revision is pretty lame, but I like the idea of a regular production PS-1. It would suck to be somebody who paid three or four grand for a JAGBAY CHROME but I don't feel bad for them. I remember when I jokingly referred to a GS2000/new Grado flagship a year ago. I'm pretty shocked a new one has come this early. Here's hoping the debut is at Canjam. EDIT: march 1st debut, i didn't read the HF thread.

deepak, I just listened to years of refusal and think it's excellent. I hope it grows on you. dreadhead: shuffling is for cowards.

Mike, in my opinion, nobody is better at restoring any pen, especially 51s, then Richard Binder. I've written with Minuskins and Mottishaws and whoever does Pendemonium's nibs, but they don't touch a quality Binder job. Last I sent in a pen his queue was 6 months, so you have to wait, but its worth it. A Binderized 51 writes like nothing else, the ink flows with even the slightest touch to the paper, wet and even throughout the stroke.

My girlfriend can't do Phish or the Grateful Dead. She'll tolerate a little Widespread Panic, since they are more of a blues/rock band then a jamband, but she thinks Phish is "just horrible, horrible noise". Sometimes I'm listening to an extended jam and I realize I can't argue with her. But its horrible, horrible noise I love. Fortunately we both enjoy metal, alt-country, and classical together. Death - The Sound of Perseverance Jimmy Herring - Lifeboat ^^^oh yeah, that is the good shit. My respect for Herring as a guitarist continues to grow. He brings an amazing jazziness to his playing without offending any rock sensibilities.

Shure SE530 First impressions from an IEM newbie (FWIW)

If the triple flange is sticking out of your ear, you aren't sticking it in far enough. You really really have to fuck yourself to get it in there. Personally I could never get the triple flange on my eties to get comfy, not because of its size, but because the material made my ears itch like mad, so I was always ripping them out to scratch. -
Louis Armstrong - Complete Hot Fives and Hot Sevens (Disc 1) Chet Baker - The Best of Chet Baker Sings Greyboy Allstars - 2008-04-16 (audience recording) David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood Van Halen - 1 The Chet Baker is awesome. I was disparaging vocal jazz and a friend of mine recommended this one to me. I have heard him sing before of course, but had never really sat down and listened closely. Some killer tracks, I will definitely be returning to it. Took another shot at the Neko Case after I saw the kick ass tiles Ian did for his place. I enjoyed more this time, I see it as a potential grower. Put on a digital copy of Van Halen 1 I have because I was thinking about buying the new Kevin Grey mastered vinyl, which BTW is suspected to be the DCC mastering. OK, so the dude can certainly shred an electric guitar, and the solos almost make the album worth it, but the songwriting just doesn't do anything for me. Really I think the songwriting sucks. And I hate hearing the VH "You Really Got Me" on the radio, and I still hate it on the album. Sorry, but Van Halen is one of those bands thats for everybody else, not postjack.

yes, that is easily one of the coolest things I've read on the internet.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion OK, so I still don't know if this album lives up to the hype, but I do know that "My Girls" is the most astonishingly good single I've heard in years. Just begs to be listened to on speakers cranked up to high volumes.

Yeah, I think they were able to do the digital input because they were using all new DACs in their units. I once asked Matt Anker at sacdmods.com about the possibility of doing a digital input on the 3910, and he said it would just be way way to difficult for him to consider. So its probably pretty tough if not impossible to get an input into a unit's native DAC. For a while now I've wanted an SACD player with a digital input in the $1000-1500 price range.
