  1. ^spliced connectors(up until recent i believe), priciest solution that somehow was universally accepted as the best senn cable EVAR... audiophiles are particularly prone to shitty photoshopped pictures, sparse websites, the concept that audio is "art" and obscene prices...no wonder the cable is referenced as the cable of choice in almost all published and online audio review media. especially 6moons...
  2. I dont think it would make a difference if it were an apple power adapter or an aftermarket one- as long as its a power only solution. I guess that would rule out any connection that could transfer songs while charging at the same time. I had this problem before and tried to plug in to computer and disable itunes drivers so all the usb port did was supply power, but no go- i really had to have an actual apple power brick The crap sells for 30 bucks nowadays. Probably a way of making people buy the adapter when the time for software update comes. The ipod photo I got back in the days came with the power brick, a dock, av cables, and both firewire and usb cables All that would cost like 150 bucks nowadays Try seeing if anyone you know has an ipod power brick. so yea basically... this or these aftermarket types etc
  3. It is doing an update. You need an ipod wall wart (a cube thing that either has a female firewire or usb jack which you plug your ipod cable into). It somehow detects whether you are plugged into computer or wall. It will only complete the update if you plug it into the wall.
  4. Hellz yea! u no u want the rest of the collection. Makin good use of the denon..

  6. Yea I was going on four hours of sleep this morning and without my good morning shower- brain didn't work too well. I also realized I left the amp on all day with two 4700uf caps paralleled to the existing 470 ones. Maybe I was "burning in." I think it's that time of the month again when the subjectivist-idiot side of me takes over. I think I hear Big Bass Big Dynamics with the caps there. Time to put 10,000uf caps in the tread
  7. 2x7812 and 2x7819 I have to go now but here are some pics. I'll take a look with the meter later tonight.
  8. Sure I'll look and take photos when I get mine open. Where did you get yours in that size though? Theres a lowes about five minutes away.. not sure if they carry anything that small. but if you let me know the exact size I could drop by tomorrow morning. I tried emailing one of their former techs (the guy I got my hpa from) for schematics but apparently he's now a rockstar and doesn't answer email much.
  9. ^ Thats a great deal!, and think of it this way, you can use the dac(which is not bad at all) on the headroom amp and then see if you can nab a used vda2 and you can compare and then see if you want to keep the vda2 or just use the dac on the headroom unit.
  10. Wait a minute the dac is non optional now on the hr amp... I guess you should stick to the dac/amp solution by headroom then. I still think you're better off getting an older desktop balanced without the dac, then using the vda2. It's a separate dac with a separate power supply, simple discrete output, yada yada... In my opinion the vhp(single ended, unless you buy two and then fiddle with cables and adapters) is just not in the same league as the hr balanced desktop for very obvious reasons... I listened to the vda2 sans power supply with my own amp and hd580(single ended), and also listened to the hr balanced desktop with balanced hd580(at a meet) and would be happy with either. To be honest the vda2 is one of the few dacs in the world I would actually buy myself, and also the hr balanced desktop. So basically, if you can, scout for a used amp only hr balanced desktop, and then get the vda2 and run the dac in balanced mode, otherwise having just the headroom combo isnt too shabby either. I just prefer both
  11. vda2 in balanced mode feeding headroom balanced desktop.
  12. I've never thought of that... that's a good idea.
  13. they are worth it. AKG K501 rules! beats grado, senn and stax by a long shot.
  14. I have a few K501s, the stock wire on all of them were 3 conductor, the headphones come apart easily, I've run it balanced, and also from speaker amp can say this is one of the most easily modified headphones out there apart from those koss clips... Opening each side is done by unscrewing one screw under each "K501" gold sticker. Drill a hole on the opposite end, find some kind of strain relief similar for both sides then solder away. The solder posts are metal and large. Hard to fubar. Mogami mini quad is a good cable to use, but shielded cable may be unnecessary. Any good old four wire braid is fine. If I were you, I would ask nmaher to supply a finished cable out of the ohno cast stuff, then you assemble it yourself to the headphone.
  15. It seems like only yesterday when you were on irc and I laughed at you. Glad you ditched all the bull. WRONG STEVE WHAT ABOUT THE HEADROOM PORTABLE DESKTOP U NO U WANT ONE
  16. I for one don't think it's a waste to have a good power supply even if the thing has a bunch of mediocre regs. I mean regs don't add noise right? *clueless* Maybe you could like... straighten the components while you're in there. I've never seen so much bent stuff...
  17. Thanks for revealing the mystery inside I could never find any hex tool that small Yea I see what you mean now...They have been known to do things that make absolutely no sense, so I wasn't surprised with all the excess crap in the power supply. So with their own upgraded power supplies there would be six or maybe eight regulators. Well good luck on that unit. Maybe you could re cap that thing, it runs hotter than you can possibly imagine, so the components inside are probably on their wane for being more than 12 years old.... A better power connection would be nice, say a mini-din.
  18. That's beautiful. I really like it
