  1. Going Infinite - Michael Lewis I didn’t so much read this book as devour it in two nights. Lewis has his critics, but he is just such a wonderful storyteller. I’m always amazed by his ability to explain highly complex topics to the “interested layman” aka me. Lewis is just so read-able. As a securities lawyer I’ve been following the story of SBF, FTX, and the Crypto Winter with some interest these last two years, so I am very much the target audience for this book. I loved it. Sam is a great character. Yes, the ending is compromised as he rushed to get it out before the trail, but I find it hard to blame the man. You strike while the iron is hot.
  2. Peter Gabriel last night in SF. I’m glad I got to see him while he is still doing his thing. With the same warhorse band he has been with for damn near 50 years at this point, no less. He can still hit the high notes, but his voice is more fragile now that gives the songs a different feel, appropriate for a guy who is now 73. The new songs are pretty good!
  3. Excited to see this guy tomorrow night in SF so I figured I'd get a refresher on the hits.
  4. Not sure what was wrong with it but there were two very flustered looking young engineers onboard trying to figure things out.
  5. First time seeing Elon’s folly in the wild and it is broken down on the side of the interstate. I smiled.
  6. Happy birthday, Santa! Hope it is nice out there in the Caymans.
  7. We miss you, Steve. Happy birthday.
  8. Happy birthday!
  9. Cool angle of one of Sir Lewis' laps. Helps you realize just how absurdly fast these modern cars are. They take turns at speeds you couldn't even come close to in another other than an ultra-high downforce ground effect car. Fighter pilot level g-forces in the turns as well.
  10. Live album from the Rumors tour in '77. Pretty solid! I think Lindsay's guitar and Mic's drums sound great. The complex vocal harmonies do suffer a bit in a live setting though. Chris McVie's voice can get lost in the mix at times. https://music.apple.com/us/album/rumours-live/1696829962
  11. Nice to see a race not won by the damn Bulls! Great win for Carlos.
  12. Happy birthday, tall man!
  13. Hoping for the best. Glad they got here out of there and people aren't waiting around to leave. After Paradise, CA and Lahaina, HI I am glad people understand these fires are no joke.
  14. Happy birthday, John!
  15. Good interview. I look forward to reading the book.
  16. So unrelated to today's announcements, does anyone here use the spatial audio for music? I keep trying it and keep bouncing off it. Is 2-channel audio with headphones a problem that needed solving?
  17. New Olivia Rodrigo. Yes, she has the full weight of the music-marketing-industrial complex behind her, but for some reason I find myself cheering for this girl. Pretty solid sophomore effort, I say. The rocker tracks are very fun.
  18. So sad to hear. RIP Sophie.
  19. Happy birthday!

    Get your game on!

Thankfully FPS is irrelevant when you are traversing the menus in the game. So many menus and loading screens! But yeah, this color thing is embarrassing. Come on, Bethesda.

    Get your game on!

Is it just me or are the black levels totally washed out? Yeah... something is definetly wrong with the colors. I started on M+K but switched to game pad. What are you using, Fitz? EDIT: Ok, I'm not crazy. Other people are noticing it too. Something is very broken with the black levels.
  22. I like this. A lot. Like I said in the other thread, they feel like indie-pop with a kiss of shoe-gaze.
  23. Alvvays - Blue Rev. I like these people! This feels like indie pop with a touch of, dare I say, shoe-gaze? How could I say no? Planning on going through their entire back catalog.
  24. I finished Succession. I was a bit late to the game on this one, but I have my reasons. I tried watching Season 1 back when it originally aired but I couldn't understand why people liked the show. Sure, there was wealth-porn for those that are in to that kind of thing, but the characters were so off-putting that I ended up tuning out about 3-4 episodes in. Fast forward to this year, and I decided to give the show another try given how buzzy people were talking about their final season. The critical excitement over the show served as a sort of implicit promise that if you can make it through season 1 that the journey is worth it. Now, having reached the end, I would say I enjoyed the show... but not anything more than that. This felt almost like a hate-watch as I really didn't cheer for any of the main characters. They all felt like such terrible people. Kendall had the energy to do the job but was a buzz-word loving airhead. Siobhan had the brains but over-played her hand and walked in to traps at every opportunity. Roman was just a monster. Like his dad but with none of his dad's redeeming qualities. Also as a beneficiary of of nepotism myself there was a certain amount of uncomfortableness in having that reflected back at me. Still, quality show, well acted, high production values, but not necessarily one I'd vouch for. I don't regret my time watching it but if they came out with a fifth season I am not sure I'd be excited to tune back in. The premise wore out its welcome for me sometime at the beginning of the last season.
  25. Why does this stupid track rock so hard? I have it stuck in my head. I guess it is Joe Cocker's backing group laying down the rhythm. Might have to find more of their stuff. I know people love to dunk on Andrew Lloyd Webber but damn the man has composed some catchy tunes.
