  1. I've just had limited time with the P1 at a meet and I found them a bit too warm and syrupy for my tastes. I listened with a variety of headphones and thought it did best with the hd600/hd650s. It wasn't horrible or anything like that, but I didn't think it controlled the senns as well as the Zana does. I've always thought that hd600/650s and the Zana are a truly synergistic combo. Not sure if it was the source (Oppo player i think) but would like to have tried the luxman something else source but didn't get the chance. Did not like it at all with the RS1 or the L3K.
  2. AudiogoN ForSale: Moth Audio S2a3 Ready for horns.
  3. Cool! Looks like we'll be getting them sooner rather than later. Guess we'll have another norcal mini meet when these babies arrive.
  4. Me too...from Headroom after u guys made me feel guilty from ordering from amazon
  5. So HF is enthusiastic about the new HD800...so what? what's the big deal? how many inane comments are posted here just the purposes of posting, sharing, laughing, or being childish, etc...same thing on HF. Just people being excited, wanting to contribute, post, etc...because it is a big deal when someone like Senn is releasing a new top tier headphone. If HF didn't exist, maybe like 75% of the posts here wouldn't exist...
  6. good luck dan...hope it does come. ur explanation of what's been happening plus your photos...wow...just really bizarre the stuff that's coming out...wtf is mikhail thinking... and why does always say that something within his control is going to happen in the future? always tomorrow, next day, next week... why doesn't he do it and tell people after it's done or after he's sent it.
  7. heheh...already showed up on amazon Amazon.com: Sennheiser HD800 Premier Headphone: Electronics At this point, I think I will eventually get a pair and at least own it for a while to see. But not sure when...I'd at least like to hear a few impressions to decide whether to get it sooner vs later....so I will leave it to Mikeymad or Al to get it first and let us peeps in SF get a listen
  8. his assumption for me was not very scientific...i didn't really see conspiratory relationship between the mods and RSA from the information ASR posted nor from any of the threads i've read on HF. i think he has the burden to provide it...if he didn't want people to comment, then he could've just sent a pm to the questioner, but he posted it publicly and if ur going to post openly, then i think it's subject to scrutiny by whoever reads it. hence, i thought ASR's post tended to be extreme and somewhat offensive and not very well supported...
  9. if you're going post something about corruption, you should definitely provide proof and your explanation doesn't show any. Posts got deleted and I'm sure they can when a thread/site is modded...it's not a democracy and for a moderated site, don't understand why you expect it to be. I think it's actually a positive that Jude explains it when he deletes posts...at least he gives his reasoning...it's his site and his rules. You can take it or leave it which you've obviously done, but to get pissed off like this and to call people corrupt and sniveling and condemning all of HF like that, it sounds more like whining than anything else...it was a few posts from the over the many hundreds that you posted after all...
  10. of all the headphones out there, i'd really recommend listening to it first or at least don't pay so much that you have problems reselling it in case u don't like the sound. Think face shape might also play a factor...depending on if you're round or angular, there can be gaps because the pads are leather with no cusioning.
  11. Dan...I understand you want to be fair, but from what I'm reading, I don't think he's being fair with you....but I understand you have to be practical and deal with him... hmmm....I could be sympathetic a few months ago when there were alot of people waiting and giving him the benefit of the doubt...who knows, he might turn the corner...but it's been a while and he continues to do the same things...maybe in Tom's case, getting a little worse. Just seems to be a little too much. When you talk to Mikhail, he is a rational, reasonable person is he not? I have never had a discussion with him and thought he was dumb or unaware in any way. Yet, how could he continue to do what he does and not be aware of its impact to the customers? I can't think of anything except he knows what he's doing... Given that, I really can't have any sympathy. Should it really be that hard to get an honest answer? Who in the entire world would know when an amp will be ready to ship if not the builder himself. I don't think that's in any way unreasonable or extraordinary...it should in fact be a given that he deals in an honest and fair way...especially given that he knows how passionate people are about their gear.
  12. For the most part, I've stayed neutral on topics like this and believe in the feedback system taking its course...but at this point, it seems overwhelmingly that that feedback paints a picture of Mikhail as someone who has willfully lied to his customers, may have done some malicious acts (pending further info in Tom's case), and acted extremely unethical (regarding adding features to Dan's stuff without his stuff and charging for them). It appears to me that Mikhail holds his customer's amps hostage. If you're a customer and he treats you like crap, which he apparently has done over and over again, you seemingly have no recourse but to eat it. I can't believe that he can according to Dan, add features that he explicitly did not agree to and then charge for them!?!? How can that be condoned. If anyone did that besides Mikhail or some other vendors who have a long history at head-fi, would that at all be acceptable? I imagine they would be easily/quickly banned. I haven't also commented since I have no skin in the game as I have sold my SS amp a while ago. Moreover, I've always had friendly conversations with him both over the phone and at meets, but this is truly a case where actions speak louder than words and I think he really needs to be held accountable for his actions and not merely what he continues to say and promise...it's absurd to me to think that anyone who is a nice guy can do what he has continously done over the past year(s).
  13. Just had another listen today along with another head-fier with the BA - still without the new power supply but with his new way of heating the 307a and still a joy to listen to...just wish Craig would hurry up, not take any thanksgiving vacation, not work on the pending zana deux orders and just build the damn thing! His amp just does wonderful things especially with low impedance headphones such as the RS1 and the AD2k. Fellow head-fier actually came in to audition the Zana which sat side by side with the BA and broke down and went with the BA. Hopefully, when I drop by again around Christmas time, he'll have the production models ready
  14. i like it and check it on a regular basis. there are some gems...most recent one "a bunch of rocks" is pretty cool...not funny, but interesting way of looking at things generally, they're not funny and i never thought of them as funny, but very creative imo
  15. Seconded...Happy Birthday!
  16. Current version (almost production) is a lot better so should be interesting comparison when its out
  17. happy owner here...one of my favorites! an action movie that tries and succeeds to be more
  18. i'm tempted...hope it sells before i decide
  19. Just to clarify what's going on with Craig since I had a chance to drop by his place today: (copied from head-fi) I know there's some confusion regarding the Afficianado and the BA. As far as the amps go, Craig says they're basically the same amps using the same circuit, hence he was thinking of charging the same amount except for the tubes. However, the Afficianado was intended for a different line of products that he's partnering with someone else on...more along the lines of speakers, amps, and preamp (the Afficianado)...hence, the different name and chassis. For my purposes and those on head-fi, it seems there's really no reason to pick the Afficianado over the BA since they are the same amp, except for maybe the aesthetics. The only question that remains is the AD1 tube. Depending upon how they sound, he may or may not offer that tube option on the BA. RIght now, I love how the 307a sounds on it and the amp would be really special if it sounded better with the AD1. Morevoer, I believe the Afficianado will be developed later possibly later half of next year with the priorities being the Zana Deux, Zana T (transformer version, and the BA. Also, had a nice listen of BA, nice and very noticeable improvement over the version at Icarium's mini meet.
  20. that's his goal...think he has all the parts, it's just a matter of putting it together. I would assume that there'll be some version of the aficionado there. shaping up to be quite a meet!
  21. Yeah, I just heard the same news from Craig and am in the same position as I already put in a deposit for the BA as well. If I'm not traveling, I'll definitely drive down to the meet and test it out. Craig says he's flexible as to which amp our deposit will go for as either amp will be the same price except for the price of the tubes...btw, those AD1s are up there in price!

    RS1's?

hmmm....wondering if i should get a backup pair... plus a having that wood box would be nice

    RS1's?

Hype is relative...what should and shouldn't cost that much is relative. How much anything should cost can only be determined by the buyer and what you're willing to pay for it. Given that I've heard most of the headphones out there and taking into account what each of them costs, I'm still pretty happy with my vintage pair. The problem comes down to you not knowing what value you should place on the RS1 because you don't know what they sound like. While you may never be able to audition a vintage pair, you can see what a current pair sounds like. If I were you, I'd just spend the 1 1/2 hour and audition them. That's the only way you'll know what you'll be getting for $500+ that you'll be spending on them regardless of what version you get. I wouldn't recommend even thinking about a vintage until you've spent some time with the RS1s and know what you're getting into. I only decided to get the vintage pair after owning the recent production versions of the RS1 a couple of times and then hearing a vintage pair at a meet earlier this year.

    RS1's?

echo John's comparison of the older vs old RS1s that we made during the norcal mini meet. I used to own a recent pair of RS1s and liked it. It wasn't unlistenable at all, but it did tend to get a little harsh at the high end and was ready to sell. When listening to a vintage pair, i don't think there's any comparison between the two. Fuller sound, sweeter midrange, and smoother...and i don't think it's that subtle either. I thought there was a very balanced presentation from low to mid to high...while still having that in your face sound that's great for rock. If i were in the market for RS1s, I'd go older as much as much possible.
  25. I can bring my emm labs if needed...it has 4 outputs i think. 1 rca/1xlr line out and 1 rca/1 xlr preamp out. Not sure about bringing my k1000 unless requested.
