  1. The Paradox Smokehead is very good (indeed!). Anybody had a J.W. Lees vintage ale? I got a couple bottles that were brewed in 2005 and aged in Lagavulin casks... and tasted not a thing like Lagavulin. Wait, I feel like I've posted this before, probably in the what are you drinking thread. Oh well... It was still very disappointing. I paid about $15 for a small bottle of 1999 J.W. Lees and I'm afraid that 10+ years won't do any more than 5 did for that ultrasweet nasty swill.
  2. I previously had no tolerance for Jason Mraz... but this is pretty cool. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3k26f_split-jason-mraz-the-louvre-is-in-l_music
  3. I've had iced IPA before (which is what they did here), from a local homebrewer. Extremely awful.
  4. Yeah, I've been reading a bit, just since I did that post. Apparently one of the best ideas so far is to use roasted chestnut chips, available from a place in Washington. $30 per 5 lbs plus cross-country shipping, so not cheap. But far better than the standard Sorghum recipes (I tried a Greene's gluten free lager once, pretty awful.) I'll let him know that there are things we can try, and see if he wants to proceed. It's unsure yet whether going gluten free is going to help him all that much, so he may not stick with it for long.
  5. My brewing dreams just took a huge hit. My buddy with a shed and a lot of machinist experience who could have built everything from scratch, cheaply.... just went gluten free. Unless I want to figure out how to brew gluten free beers...
  6. It's the last weekend her parents are in town. And yes, I already suggested bringing them.
  7. Ok, so here's who we have so far: Tyrion Agile_one WMcmanus ASR Raffy Vicki is out. VPI is a possible. Mike needs to go and abduct Dom for us. I'll pick up tickets tomorrow for the Saturday event. Still waiting for word on the Brewer's Ball at Skipper's tickets.
  8. I reference Bill Hicks too much, but his rant on Jay was a little much even for me.
  9. Ok so it looks like this thing is a go! No planned gear meet this time, just going to hang out and drink a bit. The breakdown: Saturday is the very public event in Ybor, and will probably run something like 2 - 6 PM. Florida breweries are featured but some outside breweries will definitely be represented. Sunday at Skipper's Smokehouse is more private as it's where the competition between Florida breweries is decided. We also should have time in the morning for a trip to the Temple for a light brunch. Ticket prices haven't been announced yet but figure $25 for each. I'll need to know soon how many tickets to buy for each event, especially the Skipper's deal as it sells out fast. Non-drinkers shouldn't need tickets to either day but I'll make sure of that soon. Suggested hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn Ybor, where we've stayed before. That will allow us to stumble back drunk from the Ybor event safely. We might want to consider a van for Sunday depending on how many are staying, and I can find another DD if Vicki and Alex would rather relax.
  10. I checked but could not find ceramic dildo injuries. Quite a few dildos in rectii though. One such record lists the Age as "4"... damn.
  11. "So you're spoiler-free. Here's a spoiler: you will die alone!"
  12. Yes but not if Mike is driving straight up and back on the same day. I think we're not quite connecting on dates at this point.
  13. Soo, I'm confused. Are we doing a meet or not?
  14. And not taste the plethora of other awesome stuff at the release? Unacceptable. Skip Asspowna.
  15. What will be a day trip, the CCB thing? Correction: Axpona is the same weekend as the original events I listed. The Cigar City special release is the following Friday.
  16. To quote you: You ommitted me from the list of people who can throw a good FL meet, but I forgive you, I suppose. And yes, it's the same weekend.
  17. Hunahpu release is probably the right choice. Joey will most definitely be rolling out the barrel aged Hunahpu for tasting and I can't even begin to guess what else he'll have ready. Shall we toss together a meet for the 13th?
  18. Just realized that the biggest beer weekend in Florida is at the same time as that Axpona nonsense. Well, the stars should align and some people should pop in for a beerfest or two, and possibly a meet if we can stay sober long enough. Best Florida Beer Championships - Calendar of Events Will post more later.

    Top Gear

I have a feeling that the Bolivia special could have been 3 extended episodes of pure entertainment. I liked it but it felt like a compilation of vehicles breaking down, rather than an old school Top Gear road movie. The first episode of this season had more pure entertainment value than that. Honesty is the big one though. I've been going back through some of my favorite episodes to figure out when they became so comfortable with lying about absolutely everything. What would be wrong with saying, "Richard's truck can't make it down the hill with only 2 wheels powered, so we're going to show how horribly wrong this could all go." Of course take the damn trash out of it first and make it clear that you're going to pick it up off the side of the hill after it rolls a couple 50 times, thus keeping the environmentalists happy. Instead we get a badly staged 'accident', and some BS about leaving it up there. That shit may eventually wear me down into not liking the show. "Why would you lie about something dumb like that? Why would you lie about anything at all?" -Vampire Weekend, Oxford Comma
  20. If I can attend a meet where Pliny (in some form) is available in a near endless supply, then for God's sake how can I resist?
  21. Sounds like a kickass meet. I'm in. Planning on flying to SFO on Thursday evening (The 25th).

    Modern Family

Both rock. Concerning Community though: my friend came in while I was watching the second most recent episode ("The Politics of Human Sexuality"), and asked whether I was watching it just to screw with him. It was quite easily the lamest and unfunniest episode they've produced so far, but I wasn't really noticing how bad it was until he pointed it out. I made him watch the pilot just to prove that I wasn't insane.
  23. Heh, I never knew about the Masada scale thing. I'd heard a couple of Zorn's albums and couldn't figure out where he was coming from, but that's pretty cool. Also didn't know about a new Jarrett improv, must find that now.
  24. I wish your mom could sing. Rock Band owns.
  25. DISCLAIMER: The below is a joke. A bit of parody, if you will. We would never put such insane requirements on something as simple as a Head-case post. Please, when posting impressions follow a few simple rules. If you attended this meet, please place all feedback for it in this thread. Make sure to include your answers to all the following questions in your feedback. If you are the attendee, you only need to answer questions for the first form on the page, "Form 1".
