  1. It may well have been the ambient noise level at the NorCal meet. Because of the speakers, which both added its own extra noise and caused conversations to be louder, the noise was much greater than normal loud meet noise.
  2. Your dollar figures look correct to me. I dealt with John and Matt at the same time. I'd say that communication was pretty similar between the two. They both were fairly good about responding but some emails to both went unanswered. In the end, both products were delivered as promised.
  3. Here is what I posted on HF: The SoFla crew is great. It may be the most active of the Head-Fi groups. It must be the best partying group. The idea of a bi-coastal simultaneous meet was genius. I got to San Mateo Friday afternoon because I didn't want to miss Justin's birthday celebration. Voltron, Iron_Dreamer, blessingx and I took Justin to his favorite west coast restaurant: In 'N Out Burger. After engorging ourselves on burgers and fries, we headed back to the hotel to drink beer and swap headphone lies until it was time for Al and Ric to head home. All in all a quiet, but entertaining birthday celebration. My meet impressions are pretty sparse. As usual, I spent much more time socializing than listening to equipment. Anyway, here goes. I think that it was very useful to try out having speakers in the same room with the headphone set ups. IMO, the experiment was a failure. The added volume of the speakers caused the talking to also be louder, so the ambient noise was much louder than usual. Considering normal ambient meeting noise, you can probably imagine how loud it was. I found it difficult to audition anything. In the afternoon, when we were supposed to audition the speaker setup and the volume was turned up, the talking volume again got louder. As a result, I can't tell say how good the B24 amp and Ti's speakers are. I can say that they can get quite loud. I'd have loved to hear this setup in a quiet room with the music playing at normal listening volumes. So as I said, the experiment was useful in that we learned (hopefully) that speaker set ups need their own room to both be able to appreciate them, and so that we can also listen to the headphone set ups. Before it got too loud, I was able to listen to and compare both the Millet 307A and Eddie Current amps with my balanced Grado HP-2s. Both are great amps. I listened to the 307A first. It is extremely precise and very dynamic. I found the tone to be very good. Then I listened to the Nautilus. It wasn't as dynamic as the 307A, but it's tone was much better. I would call it more musical. I would be extremely happy to have either amp, but if I was going balanced now, I would choose the Nautilus. Thanks again to Johnny Numbers. The meet was well organized and I had a great time. It was good to see a bunch of new members and it's always great to see friends. Sure he would. You just have to offer enough him enough.
  4. Happy Birthday to the "In 'N Out Kid"!
  5. At least we know who to blame.
  6. Happy Birthday George. Hope things are going as well as possible.
  7. My advice is to ship it John Tucker of eXemplar. It will be more expensive than Matt, but it will sound much better. Back on topic, yesterday I bought an NOS Bendix 6385 tube.
  8. Sure, especially if there is some Pliny the Elder (or even the Younger) included with it. We'll be happy to cool them down!
  9. Also, because there are many tube possibilities for most of his amps, you can tune it to a smaller degree. Depending on the tubes used, the same amp can be made to sound very tubey and almost solid state.
  10. Maybe he meant "wooden screws"?
  11. Very lucky! It's why I no longer have any faired motorcycles. Your cost was more typical. Of course, you didn't already have some rash on the fairing that you could continue to ignore.
  12. Sounds like a tip over. If you go down on any modern faired bike, it will be a lot more than this unless one is then going to go the "street fighter" route. Don't worry Jay, everyone has done this. It's the main reason that I recommend people buy an inexpensive, naked bike as their first bike. I recently bought the ridiculous and sublime, both from Vince Vaughn. The sublime is a jewel-like 6" mini to mini cable. The ridiculous is a 50', 1/4" headphone extension cable so I can listen to my main setup when sitting in the den. It, of course, is extremely well built and I don't notice any reduction in SQ. Edit: Jay's post came in while I was composing this one. Jay, there's no need to warm up modern motorcycles. It's just a waste of gas. Also, now you see why it's recommended to not leave a running bike unattended. There are lots of things that can go wrong. Lastly, with many inline 4 cylinder bikes, it's not a good idea to run them while on the side stand. The high cylinder can suffer from oil starvation. Of course, this depends on the bike and engine.
  13. I see your problem. It's a little known fact that the person writing the second amendment was a little dyslexic. It was late and he was tired. It was supposed to read: "The right to keep and arm bears". But it got screwed up and here we are.
  14. Earl, Happy Birthday! I'm sure that you are treating yourself to some new tubes!
  15. Depends on what you're going to use it for.
  16. Just noticed the IM icons in the upper right corner of your message. It looks like AIM is holding up Yahoo. Maybe AIM was hired by Microsoft?

The garbage truck was loaded over the legal limit and, due to previous vehicle violations, could not legally enter NYC. The bus was illegally parked. The legal wrangling over this will get very interesting.
  18. Please do. I'll probably need the chuckle. Ah, did the Kosta Browne just ship? Edit: Nope, I see they shipped on Mayday. Must be something else exciting.
  19. So what did you buy? A couple of cases of Petrus?
  20. Yep. Unfortunately, Russian River Brewery doesn't ship their beer down this far south yet. So no Pliney the Elder. The good news is that they plan on doing it soon, so I have hope! "I'll just have to choke it down".
  21. They also had the Trois-Pistoles and the Fin du Monde. I didn't get either of those because it's been really hot here recently and I thought that the Maudite would be the best of the three as a hot weather beer. I'm willing to hear other opinions though.
  22. I just came back from buying beer. I didn't go too wild as my wife doesn't like beer so we mostly drink wine. The beers were already picked over and there wasn't much of what people recommended. All the beer was 1/2 off. I got: 6 Hoegaarden $4.75 6 Rogue Dead Guy (microbrew from OH) $4.75 4 Duvel Belgian Golden Ale $6.50 4 Unibroue Maudite (no 16) $6.00 So with CRV and tax, the grand total was $24.18 for these beers. I may buy another 6 pack of Hoegaarden tomorrow.
  23. You can't lose here. Worst case is that it doesn't float your boat. If so, you can always sell it, probably for more than you paid. Risk free, except if you like it that is!
  24. I thought of that and looked for "Will" in the attendee list. He wasn't there so I thought that she was just being emphatic! Maybe she'll invite a "Will" now.
  25. Two wills! She must really mean it.
