Appreciate all the helpful replies offered. Gives me a better understanding how to get a handle on this. This started by my replacing the 1.7V Vf LEDs in my working GG with supposed lower noise and impedance 1.6V Vf LEDs. Installed and powered up, the forward voltages measure 1.512V (D13) and 1.500V (D10). In circuit, they are biased at ~1mA, pretty low for these new LEDs. I can solder parallel resistors to R51 and R42/R43 to supply 5mA total to each the LEDs to get to the 1.6V Vf. To exactly match the original operating points of Q20 and Q17/Q18, I can play with R50 and R44/R45 values. I’d like to get these changes addressed to fully consider if these LEDs actually offer a positive audible change. On first listening over the last few days, IMO it’s worth the effort to continue with this. So far, I am liking what I hear.

Wondering if I can get some help with the front end of my Grounded Grid (same as the Carbon). What are the correct voltages or design currents across R50 and R44, circled in red. Thanks

Must have been heart stopping to have that happen when you were hard on the throttle at speed. Your mechanic/welder/machinist is a magician. His work in restoring the damaged heads is incredible. Hope you bought him a beer afterward. ?

Sure, all valid points. Just writing of my perspective of their quiting the home entertainment business they successfully built up. Thought it was pretty classy the way they handled the PR of going out on top and not selling out. Also offering continuing software updates, fixes and service to its existing customer base and not just waiting and let the whole business model implode and leave everyone stranded. Their exit will leave a big hole in the audio community. that hopefully another company sees as an opportunity to fill. I never got around to owning a new OPPO product. I would not hesitate to buy used.

I think they could see the writing on the wall for playback of physical media. The outlook could not support their margins while maintaining their desired best in class product philosophy. Instead of the long spiral downward of cheapening their designs to fit into a commodity class mentality, they are now simply bowing out having done an admirable job of owning their market. Rare to see such a corporate display of integrity and pride in work done these days.

This continuing ripoff of the generous sharing of past designs has to be disheartening. I sincerely hope The Stax Mafia will make future DIY designs and boards available in some form or manner to select DIYers.

Given that HiFiMan engineering is based in China and uses parts sourced there, it may be cheap insurance on their part to raise resistors off the PCB and not risk letting the smoke out. Granted that is not the case in well engineered and produced products, like those from Molnir Audio of course.

For HV, it’s best practice to space the resistor body off contacting the PCB to prevent any possible stray shorts or arcing.

Wasn’t there a water cooled T2 on Taobao awhile back? What could go wrong with that?
