  1. Oil in barrel while in storage, dry clean before shooting is standard procedure in my part of the old world as well. If you skip the dry clean part, I have read that someone thinks that oil in barrel *may* increase the pressure and that this might be bad for your karma or something. Ok, I made up the last part because a modern firearm should handle a little increased pressure just fine and after the first shot most of the oil should be gone anyway.
  2. As naamanf points out transformers are rated in VA, and as V goes up (110 -> 220), A must go down. The issue is heat From Transformer Ratings: "The power-handling capacity of a transformer is dependent upon its ability to dissipate heat. If the heat can safely be removed, the power-handling capacity of the transformer can be increased. This is sometimes accomplished by immersing the transformer in oil, or by the use of cooling fins. The power-handling capacity of a transformer is measured in either the volt-ampere unit or the watt unit."
  3. Some garden work, put winter tires on the car and thoroughly cleaned the barrel of my rifle. And ain't that a good excuse to put up another gun image? It is a Tikka M65, but mine is "left handed".
  4. Just for training, we have a couple of similar guns at work, and I discovered that it was mighty fun to shoot with such a pistol. The big deal with air guns is that you can use them almost everywhere. It shoots this kind of pellets: It is a 4.5 mm, so the ones from the front row will fit.
  5. Just ordered a Baikal IZH 46M, a cheap (compared to similar air guns ) but high precision air gun.

    Wish me luck!

Sorry to hear this. Hope you get a follow up with their hiring manager, it could provided valuable feedback. I agree with the above regarding phone interviews, communication between people are so much more than just words.

But didn't Hitachi buy the IBM disk line? I think it is indeed a Deathstar (but many a GB has been lost since then).

Speaking of penguins This one is a Colonel-in Chief in the Norwegian Army and here he is inspecting the Kings Guard:
  10. It seems that ECCO Men's Shoes: Outdoor, Casual & Dress Shoes does not have their sandals available in US. I've used a lot of Ecco shoes (and sandals) in the last 20+ years, not always very cool but every pair I've had has been very comfortable to use.
  11. I also want a bass battery behind the grille. On second thought, I got a DT770 so I don't want a bass battery.
  12. I almost have a 120GB 1.8" external drive I sort of wanted to use with my 901 to come. Almost because there was two connector "strips" with the enclosure, one for Hitatchi disks and one for Toshiba. I got a Toshiba disk. Guess which strip I can't find? Did you test if there was any noticable performance gains by increasing memory? I got a feeling that Linux is very good at utilizing "spare" memory, but I've never seen any numbers for that. Which (if any) desktop enviroment do you use?
  13. Via cpu's FTW. I've had a VIA cpu in my home server for seven years (was a 833 MHz C3, now a 1.5Ghz C7). Uses next to no power (less then 30 Watt for the whole system). Needs very little cooling and takes very little space and it has enough cpu power. That said, I would not put it in my desktop machine. Asus has delayed the delivery of the 901's here for another 14 days.
  14. Been at a Java conference here in Oslo for two days. Some good stuff, some boring. One of the speakers (on the good side, get the relational databases outta here ) had worked a lot with big investments banks. Must be kind of strange to sit on Oslo and watch your clients disappear. Most fun: Meet former colleagues.
  15. Finally in stock: TOSHIBA HDD 120GB ATA-LIF 1.8IN 8MM 4200RPM 8 (MK1214GAH)
  16. Was at the library with my son yesterday so now I'm reading this for him:
