  1. It doesn't really make the rye better, cocktails are a transformation which transcends the sum of the parts.
  2. It's actually amazing the number of companies that make these. For example, Accuphase, Bryston, Krell, Pass (old and new, i.e the PCXe and the XVR1), Luxman, and last but CERTAINLY not least, the ACS-1 from our buddy John Curl. I've owned the Marchand products and I think they're decent. There's also the concept of a PLLXO (passive line level crossover), which you might consider researching a bit and Marchand sells as well.
  3. Nice! If Spec's in Houston doesn't carry the SHF stuff, I'm planning on grabbing some in your neck of the woods. There's a nice article on the proprietress in this month's Imbibe, as well as a few pages on the bourgeoning Austin cocktail scene
  4. Thanks! The interesting thing is, there really aren't a huge amount of ingredients here. I think I have two wine cases packed up, and even that contains a good number of duplicate spirits...
  5. Well, the party is Saturday, here's what I came up with. PGE Cocktail Menu.pdf
  6. I think the second option would be better. I'm assuming you are biamping the speakers?
  7. You might look here: http://www.marchandelec.com/
  8. 20th Century Cocktail Gin courtesy of a fellow Head-Caser! Cheers!

  11. I actually found one "AS-IS" for more than I wanted to pay, but less than most out there. Risks are fun! The deal is, it's lacking the power supply and some of the probe accessories. Looks like it needs a simple 9v 500mA wall wart, but no idea what the plug size is. I guess we'll see. If it works out, I'd be willing to rent it out. I'm wondering if I could just plug this into my distortion analyzer directly? I need to do some more research. If so, that's very sweet.
  12. too bad you need actives, I have a great DIY two way that needs a home
  13. My money is on horse #2. Fun times though .
  14. Woah. Yeah, the plexi stuff, isn't that some sorta of safety standard? I remember reading about that somewhere, definitely before my time... If I had to choose, I'd rather use an isolation transformer than ground lift the scope, but again best not to propagate safety risks. But what I really want is a P5200 or someone to nick a circuit so I can DIY one The other option is of course matched HV probes. Tek used to (still does?) sell probes this way. Then you do the invert and sum trick across the two channels. Not as cool as the above though, and cannot really be used on PSUs where you want a floating measurement. Seriously though, ask Andy. He satisfied himself and whomever was working with him, so thats worth something I'd suspect.
  15. Love the Markl modded A2s that I have. Haters gotta hate.
  16. I think this is all pretty subjective. For example, you could ask Andy what he did, as he was the most recent person that would have comparable experience and equipment to what you might have. I really want a differential high voltage probe, namely a Tektronix P5200. That being siad, it's not like I've never floated the earth connection of my scope, I'm just not going to sit down and explain how to do something unsafe here...
  17. I could be wrong, but I think Craig actually ended up removing capacitors, not adding them, when it was all said and done.
  18. Reduced the port wine sauce too much (to an uneatable state), but the trout and mushrooms were good...
  19. I've been looking for a dry pisco receipe and found a combo I like. 2 oz pisco 1/2 oz lime juice 1/2 oz R&W Apricot
  20. I'm considering selling a Tek TDS1012, contingent on another purchase. It's minty and has all the original documentation, accessories and box, etc. all of which are in excellent condition. I purchased it at Fry's. Includes two Tek probes as well. I was thinking $500 shipped. Thanks!
  21. Cool! I'd look at both the power rails and the outputs at full power. I've found that you need a decent bandwidth scope to do this though. Post the traces once you get around to it
  22. Fernet and Moxie 3 oz Moxie 2 oz Fernet Branca
  23. Ace of Clubs (Esquire) 2 oz aged rum (the drink scales well, use something good) 0.5 oz Creme de cacao (white) 0.5 oz lime juice 0.5 oz simple sugar Shake the double strain! Garnish with aromatic bitters drizzles on top.
