I enjoy my modded D2000 and plan to recable them myself when I get some more practice with the soldering iron in. I am re-cabling them because I can't stand the feel and flexibility of the stock cable. If the re-cable provides some improvement in SQ then that's a bonus.
With some added dampening in the cups and a set of JMoney leather pads, they sound very good to my ears.
Yeah...as much of a pain in the ass it is to buy redbook and then rip them to my hard drive, it's worth it to not patronize EMusic. Plus you get lossless quality.
That sucks. I'm thinking of ditching my membership too. I was browsing just recently and noticed that some of the more popular songs from an album require a full album download, but I didn't notice that they were charging more for a particular song. That's bullshit IMO.
I'm in a "metal from high school" phase. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Michael Schenker Group, Rainbow to name a few. The early 80s were good to these bands.
They (SM Pro Audio) also have the iNano http://www.smproaudio.com/produkte/monitor-controller/inano-passiver-lautstaerke-controller.html which has 1/8 input and output in addition to the TRS jacks. I had one on order but OneCall kept dicking me around with the backorder so I cancelled it. I then found the NHT Passive Volume Control from ListenUp here in Colorado for $69. It works great and I have noticed no change in SQ.
