Is $260 for the HD600 a good deal? I must be turning into more of a cheapskate with age....

If anyone's looking for an ipod or ipad for the holidays....Newegg is giving 10% off with promo code EMCJJJB74 at checkout. I picked up an 8 Gb iPod Touch for $179 with free shipping. The code expires 11/22. I would have pasted the actual email in this post but it looked like shit.

I know I'll probably get slammed for this, but I always preferred Black Sabbath with Ronnie James as the front-man. He certainly had the chops for metal and if I were to form a fantasy metal band, he would get singing duty. The Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell are 2 of my all time favorite albums.

Down south, we got close to a foot with the last storm. This winter is gonna suck!

Metrum Acoustics Octave: A NOS digital filter-less DAC

Needs moar caps! -
Some of their early stuff was pretty good. However, I'm not a fan of their newer offerings.

I get the jar-head reference but not the doggie one. I was in the Army but it was back in the 80s so the vernacular may have changed. Which branch are doggies?

Congrats! She's a doll! You're in for a whole world of new experiences.

Another vote for the Shures. I preferred it over the D2000 stock.

My first "rig" was an HD580 plugged into a Headsave Classic. My source was a Turtle Beach Santa Clara soundcard. I thought I had pics of the Headsave, but can't find 'em.

Thanks, Colin. I've been reading up on different uses for opamps and was able to recognize that some of them in the D/AC 800 are used for a low pass filter. Parasound was nice enough to send me the schematic and I'm quickly realizing that what I did with the Lite is probably not transferrable to this DAC. Again, thanks for your help!
-
I know enough about this stuff to be really dangerous, but wouldn't a passive output sound better than an active one with all the opamps? I did something similar with my Lite DAC-AH and it sounds much better to my ears. Of course, the caps I used cost more than the DAC itself. In any case, I'm moving ahead with the ASE-Audiotuning mods to swap out the stock Yamaha receiver (YM3623) and NPC filter (SM5813) on my D/AC-800. I'll report back when they've settled in.

Happy Birthday! Love the shots of Simone....right click...save image as....

I was thinking of inserting the caps after the I/V stage (AD841). Would that be doable?
-
I just bought a D/AC 800 so I would be upgrading the stock NPC SM5813 which is a rebadged DF1700. I think it may prove a worthy upgrade based on some of the reading I've done but the cost of the upgrade will be more than the DAC itself. I have already pulled all the opamps in the output stage and replaced with sockets and have been rolling opamps with some success. Would it be fairly simple to skip the output stage and go passive with some nice film caps?

Have any of you Parasound DAC owners tried these ASE-Audiotuning "upgrades"? http://www.audiotuning.de/english/index.html?1-54-digital.html

In order to get some context, I had to listen to the Postal Service's version of the song. I think they both sucked.

I'm happy the Saints made it in too...even if it was on Minnesota's turnovers. Of course, you know this means that Favre will come back next year.
