  1. I'm glad it all worked out! And I do my best.
  2. That sucks, Chris. I'd say that PayPal was actually lying (I know for a fact that they charge a currency conversion fee, because I've paid it before), and Harvey just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Not great customer service on their part, though. Here is an open, but new with box and papers, sold by a Jeweler in NY, that is immediately available $5,000 (I bet you could get at least 5% off of that). That's a beauty! If you were worried about scratches, when resizing, just put some tape on the exposed surfaces. Just remove the tape when you are done.
  3. Might as well put that VAT discount to use!
  4. if anybody wants to know why I like flat watches, see the attached. Peek-a-boo!
  5. I love it when a plan comes together.
  6. I think you are both going to like your new timepieces. A group picture will, of course, be required.
  7. Happy birthday Ed! To good health.
  8. Chanel will honor a European warranty in the US, I'm sure. If they can get the watch to you quickly enough, I would order from Harvey, as much as I like Joma. $230 isn't much to pay to make sure you can return it, if your wife decides she doesn't like it, when it's on wrist. Harvey is very reputable. Make sure that you use the VAT8 code, at checkout, so that you don't pay Swiss VAT.
  9. That's new to me! Are they requiring you to do so, to make the purchase? My guess is that these get ordered to be worn at a special event, and then returned afterwards, fairly often.
  10. Yeah, I want you to shut up, because I hate talking about watches. You really like it, it's in your price range, and you don't have to jump through hoops to get it. It seems like the winner. I also like it.
  11. I had misread your post, sorry about that.
  12. The Hi-Beat GMT (especially the limited version in green) would be my choice, of any GS, I think. Are the three watches you posted pictures of, Chris, the same case size? If so, I'd go with the black dial and the black rotating bezel. If those are larger than the white dial, plain bezel watch, then I might go for the white dialed GMT. 42mm is about as large as I like, even with my big wrist. Let me also present a slight alternative, if you can find one at a discount: The SBGE015.
  13. Get the Seiko. You have my permission.
  14. I think you might be onto something. I wouldn't mind having a 1950 3-Day. This is an in-house movement, if it matters to you, Chris. I might actually prefer it to the Pelagos, but I've owned Tudor, and have never owned Panerai. By the way, Chris, how do you keep from pulling the antenna on your Emergency? I'd have that sucker out, and thus I'd be heavily fined and/or arrested, the first time I wore it when having one too many drinks.
  15. I can get it repaired, sure. Laser welding and polish. They don't look that bad, and I'd rather put the money towards HREs (or put it towards a new car).
  16. Gotcha. The Pelagos is a sweet, sweet watch. The blue is gorgeous.
  17. it's a Tudor/Rolex nerd thing with text colors on the dial, and the fact that you are unlikely to run into somebody else wearing one. if you mean "work" as in "dressier watch for work," and you want complications, this is a no-brainer, for me. I personally wouldn't get a Master Calendar, as overtime I looked at the watch, I would be sad that it isn't the Perpetual.
  18. Well, Nomos and the Grand Seiko are pretty different watches. Are you looking for a sport/tool watch or a dressier watch? If you want a Tool watch, I'd have a hard time not getting the LHD Tudor Pelagos.
  19. Is she going to go SCUBA diving with it?
  20. Chanel isn't terribly priced, actually. I don't think it is the case with that particular watch that you linked, but many Chanel watches now use in-house movements, which is a nice touch. I believe that the particular J12 you have pictured is 41mm in diameter, by the way, which is rather large. What Cartier are you looking at?
  21. it's not an album I listen to a lot, but it's a great line up, and fun (keep in mind that I love Sam River's Crystals).
