  1. Technically, yes (in that his last name is Baldwin), although according to this page, he's not, in the way that you mean (if you mean that he's related to the other Baldwin brothers that are famous in Hollywood). Although I only just found that out, myself. He's also wonderful as Marcus Hamilton in Season 5 of Angel.
  2. ...and photoshop, and airbrushing, and...
  3. She's alright. For: slavic Against: blonde Re: episodes -- meh, I don't watch TV...wait a minute, Jayne is on the show (Adam Baldwin)? That makes it worth watching right there. "Also, I didn't want to miss any gunplay." I think I like it already -- is this out on DVD? Never mind, I can google/ask Hirsch (Hirsch knows about DVDs).
  4. (wanders off to google Chuck Sarah)
  5. No, please do. I can't make fun of you if you don't play straight man once in a while. And technically, I wasn't making fun of you -- you knew what you (were) doing. I was just providing counterpoint to deepak's criticism. Elephas -- nah, I'm too much of a prick sometimes to qualify for "teh awsum!"
  6. Yes, please do let us know, that looks very interesting.
  7. Yeah, that's probably the best part -- I auditioned it briefly in the store, and for US$100, I can't think of a better system.
  8. Entire DVD "shelf system" at CostCo for US$100 (now)/US$150 (normally)
  9. Just watched Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon -- fucking brilliant. After Scream, I didn't think slasher flicks could be deconstructed again, but they did, and brilliantly. And then, they undeconstructed it -- in other words, they made an actual watchable movie underneath -- the one that was the vehicle for the deconstruction.
  10. And that's saying a lot, because the 3910 already sounds really good.
  11. I laughed. I read it as good-natured ribbing, pretty much what he was asking for, though it sounded like he was asking for headphones.
  12. Actually, it's progressive -- you can get better transformers, but they tend to cost quite a bit. Unless you're KG, in which case, you get them for free at junk yards and have a small stash of them.
  13. Seems pretty obvious from over here. People are telling you, you ain't listenin'. Thick skin is pretty much the converse of diplomacy. You know how diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip? Thick skin means being told that you have a small dick, and reading that as your fly being down -- I.E. filtering the useful information out of the post. Oh, and whining about how you're being treated == swift trip to being ignored, ridiculed, pointed at and laughed at.
  14. Watched John Tucker Must Die earlier tonight -- that was kinda disappointing. Not miserable, but if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't be missing anything. Except...I did enjoy their take on goths.
  15. Yes, and you want everyone else to feel the joy you feel when listening to it, I understand that.
  16. ^2
  17. It isn't simply dynamic range, it's also what I call "internal" dynamic range -- the bits between the bits. That would be a similar argument to saying that MP3 compression should be just as good as uncompressed audio, because you're not changing the dynamic range, only the various levels at frequency-dependent levels. It would be like saying you can't hear 2-bit dither as long as the music is louder than 3 bits -- or 10-bit dither if the music is louder than 11 bits -- simply not true.
  18. Well, just so that we're clear, I wasn't being literal, I just meant that you'd been mentioning it a lot lately (and by "lately", I mean "since you got it").
  19. That's a little better -- I'm still having trouble telling the difference between the two, but it's not because everything is hiding behind the haze of the X-Tone...there's still a small haze that the silver cables should get rid of, but I feel a little more confident that these phones are very similar. I'm thinking these 950ltd's are really nice. There's no way I'm bringing stuff home -- the 950ltd's and the Leatherheads and that's it -- the Rega and the Singlepower are staying here -- I'll do some listening with the Xiang Sheng, but that's hardly reference quality. I'll bring in the silver cables on Monday or Tuesday.
  20. I need to see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-l93gltkCc
  21. More Nestle's Crunch Stixx and Crunch Dark Stixx. These are quite possibly my favourite chocolate candy evar!!onesies-twosies!
  22. Okay, just listened to this, I guessed incorrectly, but for the wrong reasons -- I ended up preferring the tubed clip. I think the test would have been better if recorded at a higher res, say 24/96.
  23. Well, yesterday sucked -- I stopped being able to tell the difference between the headphones. I've heard Hirsch say the same thing about certain equipment in the audio chain, so I took the X-Tone out completely (I had it set to "off", but still had it in the audio chain; now, it's straight from Rega -> Singlepower). I forgot to bring my silver cables in to work, so I'm working with measly Outlaw PCA's. I may just have to bring a bunch of stuff home tonight.
  24. On the one hand, I agree -- tubes are not the solution to everything for everyone. I certainly like them enough that I have them in every one of my systems, including my speaker setup right now. And the suggestion was meant as just that -- something worth trying, if possible. Hear, and decide for one's self. Even without a tube stage? Okay, let's just agree to disagree then. Because though I agree it's not night-and-day difference, I do believe that all redbook digital has a harshness/edge to them -- and with better systems, less so -- and higher rate PCM recordings have even less so, and analog is the bestest. I'm not sure how I feel about DSD, as I'm still addicted to the sound, and am not finding the same harshness that I am with redbook. But even then, I'm still listening through tubes, so who knows. It's usually a safe assumption, but I wasn't assuming. I was just offering it as a potential place to improve one's sound. It may not be an improvement, and certainly wouldn't be in every setup, but he already said something about the Bryston something he was going to have to live with for a while. That tells me there's something he's not happy with in his setup. Just guessing, but that's where the recap suggestion came from. Jim -- feel free to take my suggestion under advisement, and/or to take deepak's responses as qualifications to my statements.
