  1. And for the record, when I say things like "short day" or "play hooky", I don't actually record my time as worked -- I just plan on making it up or something. I was being a slacker, just not completely derelict.
  2. Yeah, I'm safe for now -- we just got word not only that we're funded, but that they want us to increase our staff -- practically double it.
  3. So my sister just saw The Bad Plus...twice. (Yoshi's) She texts me, "You must must must check out the band The Bad Plus. Genre defining jazz." So, don't know if it's sold out, but they got one more show tomor...er...later today (5/2) at Yoshi's...go see if it's not sold out. Also a couple more California dates.
  4. Kylie, Abbey Road Sessions -- "Slow", in particular, is delightfully different -- you would think I would miss the Kraftwerk bent, but I can always listen to the original -- and I'm pretty sure that's Nick Cave on "Where the Wild Roses Grow", sounding splendorously charming.
  5. Or in your case, two! And I do believe it is a matter of education. I helped a guy once when I was a teen -- his tire was deteriorating before our eyes, so I gave him a lift home. And he was very appreciative, offered to do work on my car in return, but my mom is so paranoid that she actually scolded me for doing so, and I don't think I could do so today. I feel terrible about it, but it's so ingrained at this point, and happens so rarely, that I'm not sure how to change myself. I did help a bunch of scary looking dudes with a jump once, they said no-one else would stop for them, so I told them -- they were probably just scared, were they alone? Yes, but you're alone, too. Yeah, but I used to hang out with scary looking dudes in the 90's, I'm alright with it. They even tried to pay me, and I just responded with, 'pay it forward'. So maybe I'm not so bad, but for every one of those, there are probably 3 that I kept going. I don't know...
  6. Taken completely out of context, I would assume that "vixens" are boobified darth grados. Look up "Darth Boobies" (but of course be careful).
  7. Yeezh.
  8. Woot! ...on both counts.
  9. I've got that, Glorious Dead by The Heavy, and Off the Record by Karl Bartos incoming. Some times Amazon just doesn't know what to make of me.
  10. Strep su-ucks! Get over it soon, Raffy. And take all your antibiotics, you don't want a recurrence. I'm usually against over-use of antibiotics, but strep is one exception even I will make. Me: I took all my headphones home last week, thinking I was getting laid off, and I took my one pair home last night -- with plans to redo the foam in the case for them. So, to wit, today, I came in without any headphones. I think I will make today a short day. Also, I met with my boss for my annual review. Don't know anything about raises, apparently they usually hit July 1...? And apparently he's not my supervisor any more, and the one I have...well, let's just say I don't have high hopes for him.
  11. Kylie Minogue & múm, "Whistle" -- probably her second most unexpected collaboration, after the Bad Seeds.
  12. Zoot Woman, Things are What They Used to Be Really liked their first couple records (80's style dance-pop with contemporary production), didn't realize this one had come out since then.
  13. Tummy hurts
  14. Taking a break from Michael Brook's Music Library, Vol. 2 to dance in my chair to !!!'s Thr!!!er. alterna-indie-funkalicious
  15. I ate too many pistachios.
  16. Continuum continues to be all kinds of pleasing. Dan, if you haven't already, you especially should watch this. At least up to episode 4 (which is where I am) -- remember when you said that science fiction should investigate the morality of technology -- well, let's just say I think you'd enjoy this. You have to add in the overhead of malware and you have to realize that I'm a bit of a masochist, so I don't just clean my computer, I try to figure out what happened. I won't even torrent at all. So although downloading -- in and of itself -- is less costly than "waiting for it", it takes more of my time. Much more. I really need to get into Qubes, I think maybe then. EDIT: Okay, that's just silly, I'm watching it.
  17. Michael Brook, BellCurve, to be followed by Music Library, Vols. 1-9 EDIT: ...interspersed with some Dustin O'Halloran since he was listed as a "related artist", and because he's a member of the Devics, whom I love. EDIT: And listening to him play solo piano...I think I found out why I like the Devics so much. He plays piano a lot like I do. Well...a lot better, but similar choices, in terms of notes and chord progressions.
  18. Doug -- whether that was intentional or not, it's the album cover of The Darkness' album, One Way Ticket to Hell...and Back -- I think it's more a visual depiction of the album title.
  19. I'm pretty sure this is the record she is listening to:
  20. Yeezh. Well, we got white trash over here in Woodbridge, so although you're welcome to visit, I wouldn't stray too far on yer own, ya hear?
  21. Lollers. We use the words, "straight to video" to mean "not cinema quality", whereas you there seem to refer to it as an efficient business pattern.
  22. Some of us are far too lazy to pirate.
  23. Laundry. Cleaned my car (mostly). Took a bunch of recycle to the recycle place. Bunch o' other vaguely domestic stuff. (makes a vague "Sunday School" joke)
  24. Yeah, me too. I mean, I understand the benefit of going asynchronous, but other than that, I just don't get it. Most DACses' inputs are just cheap PLL's anyways.
