Juno Reactor, The Golden Sun of the Great East -- you know, it's really sad -- "Juno Reactor" is such a great name, and yet I know that like me, mentally, a lot of people lump him in with all the other instrumental electro artists, but he really is one of the best. And I would have no idea how to "rebrand" him so that he stood out more. He's so much more melodic and lyrical than 99% of all the other stuff, which to me is what it's all about.

It's like a family name -- the families in Dune, for example, were House Atreides, House Harkonnen, etc. Seats of power. But it doesn't have to be a family name, it can be tied to a place or a thing.

It's even easier to marathon the second season. Alas. Want more Luther. Every once in a while, I walk with my hands out at my sides, swiveling my entire upper torso. It's my grieving. Me: Spy -- this is awesome. It's over-the-top silly, like Get Smart or When Things Were Rotten, except it's British. Not quite Archer good, but there are spots that are better. Yes, I said it, 'better'.

You Won't -- pleasantly entertaining. Example of some of the between song banter: "So we're touring with Blood Red Shoes and Joy Formidable, both from the UK, and we're from MasNoNoNoNoNoNosetts, the birthplace of liberty...and we had some difficulty with the UK before, I don't know if you remember, so you're probably wondering, 'why are you touring with them'...well, we've worked out our differences. We've found a middle ground that we can all be happy with..." The music was highly entertaining, too -- I would say the 'drummer', but he played so many other instruments I'm hesitant to understate just how much of a multi-instrumentalist he is. Album is worth hearing, but really does not capture how entertaining they were live. See 'em if you get a chance. A note to the ladies (and...uh...others) -- they're both extremely handsome. I was the only male asking for an autograph at the merch stand. Blood Red Shoes -- Visually it's like one of the Bangles is playing with Seth Green, but couldn't be further off -- I hope they maintain this dichotomy between presentation and music, because I found disturbingly enjoyable. The music is more like White Stripes meets Black Mountain meets the Kills, with that Sabbath-y guitar, with some definite punk leanings. I particularly liked "Black Distractions" which is currently a free download. They didn't have vinyl on sale at the show, but I'll be ordering what I can (not sure what that consists of besides The Water EP). Joy Formidable -- totally love these guys, they make a nice huge sound for just three people, but I actually kind of liked the opening acts more. Not sure they did anything wrong, I may just not have been in the mood for their brand of upbeat power-rock. EDIT: Lollers @ auto-edit of MasNoNoNoNoNoNosetts.

Well at this point I'm just recreating the list from AudioStream, so I'm going to stop doing that based on mere mentions. But being fond of Fostex, I'm curious why you brought up the Fostex, Ric.

Helped continue to clear out my mother's apartment. Missed Record Store Day. Missed Steven Wilson (was on the Metro towards him when he finished at 10:18). Found US$3K in bonds in my name. Woo-hoo, I'll probably spend more in keeping them around until they mature. Weather was nice.

Oh, okay, upon further review, Ric meant what he said -- the MPx5, meaning either the MPD5 or the MPS5. So it's in a different league (pricewise) as well as being in a different league (sound quality wise)? Hmmm...

Goddamnit, editor just fucked up my first post. I'll fix it later. I will try and keep a list of "contender" DSD DACs -- I.E. those that are discussed -- those that aren't won't be on the list. I added the Oppo, the Benchmark, and the Playback Designs, I'll go back and add the Mytek later. But most of them can be found by clicking the AudioStream.com list. I forgot about the Oppo -- since I might be getting that anyway, and since I am already familiar with the sound of at least one of its predecessors, it's high on my list. You may have noticed that all my others were <US$1K, I.E. "cheap" in the audiophile parlance. But this thread isn't just for me, so will be happy to keep tabs on any others that are discussed. Ric, I presume you mean the MPS-5, since that's what I found by Googling.

Yazoo, "Winter Kills" I actually have no idea what she's saying, from approximately 1:30 to 2:00, but I only just realized it was there. It must have hit me totally subconsciously, because I was just listening to the Reconnected Live album, and she says the same thing. I'm pretty sure. Anyone know? There's quite a few people that believe he's "not as guilty" as his older brother, and that he (the younger) was under his (the older's) influence. And yeah, they need to know if they were working in isolation or not. And whether or not there are any more bombs.

Listening to more Kwoon -- they range from borderline metal ("The Guillotine Show") to delicate atmospheric acoustic post-rock. Dig.

I cannot seem to stop listening to two tracks: Kwoon, "I Lived on the Moon" and Pulshar, "Nospheratu" The former is pure icelandic shoegaze bliss a la Sigur Ros and New Order's "Elegia", with an epic, soaring climax and a gorgeous animated video And the latter is a groovy dub techno track worthy of a 40 minute extended remix a la Orb's Blue Room...but it doesn't have one.

Yeah, he's famous for so much more than Pink Floyd -- very active, many of my favourite album covers right up until at least 2009. Dream Theater, Mars Volta, Muse... I've always wanted a coffee table, for exactly one purpose -- coffee table books. Escher, Dali, Thorgerson. Best album designer in the world. Easily.

ac is definitely the best most recent technology in terms of speed, but I am not familiar with power, which is what you really want to increase area coverage. I don't think they make repeaters for that yet.
