Cool Article in the most recent Atlantic on "3D" audio
Exactly, I can't imagine he found a process to convert normal speaker imaging to binaural, then produce that from speakers. And I also agree about the earlier point about narrow sweet spot -- I bet it's painfully small. Also: Torpedo -- well put.

I sort of want a pair of good closed phones
That's too bad about Northern Light & Sound, I did get my SRH840's from them. $140 isn't bad, though, it's far better than the second closest price I remember at the time ($200-ish).

Or you could put the yellow with the lime (and the lime with the coconut...) and the green with the lemon because you like Sprite.

The screen res is the main reason I got it. No Blu-Ray drive, and I don't think it's hdcp compliant, so I'm going to have to figure out how to use linux to rip to hard drive to watch blu-rays (I've got a blu-ray drive in my main computer). No Toslink out, but it does have 4 USB ports, which is the way of the future, I think.

I did. Wasn't listening for examples of the technology, just wanted to hear the explanation. Will listen on speakers later.

I listened on headphones, which is just wrong.

Sounds like he's using "reverse crossfeed" -- in other words, using crossfeed to cancel the sound from one speaker to the other ear, rather than what it usually does. And yes, that video does a good job of explaining the exact answer to my question. Although he skipped "the third thing", which I suspect is frequency response.

It sounds to me like binaural recordings...but with speakers. Kind of curious how he did that.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking.

What are you reading now?
I love the concept of a good double feature. Yeah, I'm really -ing on Kelley Armstrong right now, after just having finished Waking the Witch and Made to be Broken in fairly rapid succession. Easily my favorite current author. Try to get as far as Stolen (eventually). Or actually, you won't discover that she can write in different "voices" until you get to Dime-Store Magic and Industrial Magic, since both Bitten and Stolen are written from Elena's POV.

LOL @ #25 I even heard the classic 8-bit sound effects. Ah, the power of icons.

So she's been replaced by an animatronic device from Disney World, pretty much.

And headphones wear out. My beloved first headphones sounded...well, worn out, when I ran across them several decades later.

Thanks, now I have a medley of Let The Sunshine In and The Temple (from Jesus Christ Superstar) (for some reason those two songs always trigger each other). (Yes, the hippie pic.)
