  1. That sucks, dude, I'm just glad you survived the ordeal. Yeah, back when I was more involved with the music scene than I am now, I remember that all the people (it seemed especially in the DC area, but I'm beginning to think otherwise) who had to be sucked up to, to get free tickets and whatnot, were those sorts of people around whom drama always seemed to flow like whirlpools, which is one of the reasons I got out of it, and just signed up to paying for my tickets whenever I could, despite protests of my cheaper friends. You really need an ironclad constitution to deal with those people (also, a large bladder, I found -- I would never survive now). And that really sucks about Kiki. And though I know what you mean about not wanting to be the person to find the dead cat, you might still want to "be there" for her, since she was the one person who was helpful last night (or at least wanted to be/planned to be/whatever).
  2. You are awesome.
  3. Well, that's why I qualified it as done well. If you have very little jitter to begin with, then a PLL is really not that bad. It is possible to have low jitter in a cheap device, and there is an entire school of thought that most of the levels of jitter that we are talking about in audio fall well within that range. Yes. Yes it is. I'm not being sarcastic or sardonic or derisive or anything. If you can't hear jitter, then yes, you are much better off, and can sit back and call "bits is bits" and enjoy the music, at least as far as your source is concerned.
  4. They're closer to the ear, so they don't need to move that much air. (And don't anyone else try to argue with me about this, I've got one 4-letter word for y'all: JH13.) Dew et.
  5. Fuck. Yeezh. Jesus. I did laundry. Drove to Richmond and back. Did some research for work. No drama. Good day. Yes, I am also somewhat inebriated. Rainbows and puppies and fairy-farted pixie dust in mah world. EDIT: Oh, and can I be the first to say: tch, yah! I mean, I'm not saying it didn't happen exactly as described, but in this day of post-Michael Jackson scandal, does anyone doubt the appropriateness of this behavior? And that it would lead to even yet still more wildly inappropriate behavior? Yes, I turned my computer back on just to post this.
  6. So is it particularly ironic that I find myself saying, "Jesus!" as an expletive while watching a video of people trying to walk on water?
  7. I think we found Shelly's wife.
  8. I has a really big sad.
  9. Pfff. Although it has been more than weekly since I discovered it, but I don't think I'm going back for at least two weeks.
  10. Beer. No watch; huzzah. Really liked that Oak-aged Imperial Stout from Left Hand, so I went back down to Once Upon A Vine and bought them out (6 bottles). Also found some other stuff that looked interesting, and was talked into buying a $2+ bottle of Polish something by the proprietor's wife. Let's put it this way -- the spontaneous discount that he gave me more than covered the cost of this. I am definitely going to make this a monthly sojourn. Alright, maybe not monthly, as I am probably covered for the next year, but ...some regular interval. Quarterly? PS Was just taking inventory -- a couple of interesting things obtained: Oak-Aged Arrogant Bastard; Sam Adams Choco Bock (dammit, forgot to check the alcoholic content, and I just read something about "extreme beer"); Left Hand Rye Bock Lager; Stone 13th Anniversary; some Maple something...fading...
  11. What is it good for?
  12. Oh, that would fucking rock. for me.
  13. Re: bolded portion -- yeah, I misspoke if I said anything to the contrary -- I totally agree with that. But the clock in the DAC -- unless ASYNC, or buffered and reclocked somehow -- is usually just a PLL on the clock on the input signal, so the statement should go something like "...it would depend somewhat if your transport has a good clock etc. to begin with..." -- that's my stance, anyway. The whole premise of going async is to circumvent this limitation.
  14. No, leave it be. The only time floating the ground would probably* sound better is if one or the other is doing something odd, and you would have heard that immediately. * With the exceptions of magical fairies farting pixie dust in your cables right in the middle of you building them.
  15. I Nurse With Wound unnaturally.
  16. Thirded, and the motion carries. Me: catching up on some Human Target recently. I have to admit to liking the good stuff, a lot.
  17. So do any of these have hard compartments to protect the iPad, or is it supposed to prevent its own torque? The reason I ask is, I'd be interested in getting something similar, with a compartment for my Kindle DX, which is similarly sized, but I'm worried about torque.
  18. Apple. I love apples.
  19. Jitter reduction, not rejection -- without buffering and reclocking, one can only reduce jitter, not eliminate it. Async done well could easily better that. Under the assumption that you can hear jitter, etc., blah blah blah.
  20. It's 6 years old for a reason, don't waste your liver on that.
  21. It is not the time to move on to the good stuff, no.* * Don't know if Aquavit is considered good stuff, so I may or may not have answered your question. On an unrelated note:
  22. Oh. You're right. I guess I don't know what a schwarzbier is. I just read the description on ratebeer, and it pretty much describes the Shiner. And the Session. Maybe I just don't like schwarzbier.
  23. It's not a Schwarzbier, it's a lager, it just has "black" in the name, which is as far as I'm taking tonight's motif. That said -- noted, will hunt some down. And: you're right. Bohemian? Check. Lager? Check. Black? Wait, whut? Oh, you mean the label... Okay, kind of lightweight, kind of good, but nothing special, will not buy more. On to: Full Sail Session Black -- another lager. More of the same, but better. Added a note of...can't place it. Nitrous? Not sure. Doesn't have the little shaker thingy, I don't think. It's okay, but again -- will probably not buy more.
  24. I declare today's theme to be "black" -- starting with Shiner Black Bohemian Lager.
