  2. Be careful citing wikipedia when discussing academics. Wikipedia is a very politicized source.
  3. Why not? Why not negotiate for your best interest? It's the whole "I shouldn't have to negotiate for health care" thing that got us in the mess we're in now. If you don't negotiate (and that doesn't always just mean about price, they can make effective but better value decisions when treating you if they know cost is a concern), then they will choose the latest greatest options to treat you, which are often cost prohibitive.
  4. Things may be different in florida than in pennsylvania. Pennsylvania allows jurisdiction shopping, so all the cases happen in philadelphia, where the prospective jurors love sticking it to the rich doctors. And I've never met an OB/GYN who drives a $100k car.
  5. My experience is if you don't have insurance, most medical providers and hospitals are glad to negotiate a better deal, too.
  6. So far at least less than half of the voting population believes in universal health care, thank god. I don't think that'll change in the next election cycle Mike, As to what's good about our current system, ask the canadians that come here for health care. What's good is that we have the best and the brightest working on making things better. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the best coverage, but on the whole, people mostly get what they need, at the very least. Ask the english and the canadians if they'd like the option of paying for care out of pocket if given the chance. I'd argue that your profession is at least partly to blame for the state of health insurance in this country, not to mention the cost of health care. Medical malpractice has gotten out of hand, driving good doctors out of business for lack of the ability to pay insurance premiums. Doctors are stuck spending more time covering their asses rather than trying to cure people. But I'm going to bed, so this is a debate that will be for another time. And not canjam
  7. The comcast dvr is tivo now? I may have to switch to cable.
  8. You can with a mac create a network. It'd be wifi, and then your ipod touch would connect to THAT netowrk (and nothing else, basically) in order to control the mini.
  9. VNC and signal don't actually stream anything, they just control your computer. And if you have the mini create it's own wireless network, it doesn't have to talk on the work network at all. Just have the touch link up to the mini's created network.
  10. I think I'm gonna pick up a newertech ministack v2 and a 750gb pata drive. Stacks with the mini, can more than handle the performance needs of a media server.
  11. If you're close to getting the picos, I'd still get them, then sell one and buy a duet
  12. Get the airport express (or a timecapsule). You won't regret it.
  13. I'd get a pico and a duet, rather than 2 picos or 2 duets, personally. Then you can decide for yourself.
  14. My mini is where my airport was, so yes, I still use it at home. Works like a champ. The big advantage it has over sailing clicker etc is full access to the playlists, and displays album art, etc. I absolutely love signal. I'm seriously considering an ipod touch because of how much better it's supposed to work, too.
  15. I use a nokia 770 instead of the touch, and modified signal to work better with it, but that's not an option for most people
  16. I'd use VNC to manage it, and get an ipod touch + signal to control itunes, instead of getting a monitor...wait, not only would I, it's what I did . Unless you plan on using it for more than just media duty.
  17. No, wait to tell him until after you've done the work
  18. The nokia 770 or ipod touch or iphone + signal works well. Portable dvd player w/ ipod dock and video in is a good alternative, and relatively cheap, too I like the signal option best because I also have a vnc client on it when I need to control the system, but otherwise, it works just like a great little remote.
  19. There are lots of little dvd players with video in, too. Just get a composite video dongle if you need one. Lots of alternatives. I also use signal to control it.
  20. I just use remote desktop to manage the mini. It's not like I do't have a laptop, I just don't want it attached to my dac
  21. mac mini + either internal drive upgrade (500gb will be possible soon) or external drives + dac
  22. You're embarrassing...
  23. You could saw them in half, and attach a 5" piece of wood to make them wide enough...
  24. I don't see value in cartridges other than 9mm and .45 for handguns. You can get REALLY small 9mms these days for when you need really concealed, and if a .45 doesn't knock em down, you're dead anyway. The other cartridges are designed to sell guns.
