received a refurbished body with ~2200 shutter actuations on it today. was surprised to find a bit of paint loss and lots of scuffs on the body. is this normal for nikon or refurbished bodies in general? it seems to be a luck of the draw thing with these things. the serial number is 301xxx which gives me cause for worry as a lot of those bodies had the left focus issue. will have to find a cheap af lens to test with. big files are BIG. -
I wear a size 11 4E and have not had many occasion to wear non running shoes much until now. With med school a few months away where I will be required to suit up once or twice a week when I go shadow physicians. Anyone have suggestions (for probably 2.4% of Jeff's budget) for shoes that are for really wide feet? All the ones I have had and tried in stores cause very painful blisters on the sides of my feet on account of having very narrow toe boxes. I don't need anything fancy. The simpler the better but given that ill be on my feet for 10 hours, I'd like something that is comfortable as well.

I'm definitely doing this once I accumulate enough parking receipts.

Went to see a hand surgeon for a problem that had been bugging me on and off for the past few years. I had seen him in 2006 about the same issue and he had suggested fusing the 5th CMC joint as it was dislocated and fractured in 1999 in India. I had fallen off my bike and broken my arm and hand but due to the localized pain in my arm, the doctors never bothered to x ray my hand so it went unfixed. Fast forward to 2006, I fell on the same hand again while playing basketball where the x rays indicated a massive dislocation - my entire 5th finger has shifted down 1 cm from where it is supposed to be all the way down to the wrist. This wasn't as apparent in 2006 as it is now as the joint has now become arthritic (I am 26...) - even carrying groceries knocks the finger out of alignment leading to blinding, shooting pain. When the PA looked at the x ray she balked and asked me if I had congenital analgesia because of how messed up the 4th and 5th CMC joints were. The physician then came in and explained that over the past 14 years the muscles and tissues in the area had essentially compensated for it by growing around the fracture/dislocation. In 2006, I was foolish enough to disregard his warnings of early onset arthritis due to the massive dislocation/fracture thinking my late 20s were a long time away. I seem to have done irreparable damage to it over the past 7 years to the point where he said that arthritis was unavoidable and that the surgery would only mitigate future pain. This is quite upsetting as it probably rules out any surgical residency for me after med school. I am right handed and my left hand is the issue but I would assume dexterity with both hands would be expected. Would be nice if the physician in India could be held accountable for negligence as I remember going back to him repeatedly mentioning the pain and deformity in my hand but instead of taking an x ray, he just brushed it off as post injury swelling. Unfortunately, any such legal action would be laughed at there as any court case will likely not be heard for at least 10 years and even after that, negligence is not punished that severely. Now I am stuck with an unavoidable surgery I can't afford with no way of making certain that the physician in India does not provide such shitty care to others. Oh well. At least I got to have cake tonight.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It has been an unbelievably good year and a half. Bryan, unfortunately moving in isn't an option at least until after I finish med school. Even then, there is no surety that I will land a residency locally and might have to relocate for that. One day though, hopefully sooner than later.

Woke up with the cold and cough getting nastier. Tutored someone at my university for a few hours. Very bright girl. Started school at 16 and is taking 7 classes right now. I keep telling her to slow down and that losing those years really isn't worth it but she wants to finish med school before she gets wrinkles. Perhaps not so bright after all. Went to Whole Foods for lunch and enjoyed a blackened spicy chicken sandwich and an ice cold Reeds Ginger Brew. Drove up to see Julie and helped her with some Bio and Math for a couple of hours. Made a publix run for her while she studied and then made Salmon and Spanish rice for dinner with a butter/lemon/chicken broth/parsley sauce which was too runny but Julie said she enjoyed it anyways. We talked over dinner about lovely last weekend was and how neither of us like to go out to clubs/bars but as boring as we might be, we love each others company. She studied some more afterwards while I graded some tests. At 10 I had to say goodnight to drive home and tonight more than ever before I didn't want to leave her. I can't remember the last time I was this genuinely happy and content with the way my life is going. Sure there is always room for improvement but I wouldn't change places with anyone. Today was a fairly uneventful day but it felt perfect. Tonight, I also find myself missing Matt. He didn't miss a single chance to tell me to STFU and while neither of us were as close to each other as perhaps some of you were with him, he, in his own way, told me to grow a pair, stop bitching about life and change the way I did things. I make no claim to having done either but I think he would have one less reason tonight to tell me to STFU. Hope you are well, Matt. Wherever you are. I would also like to thank you all for being incredibly kind and patient with me. I have made many mistakes in the past and am sure I will make them in the future however, I am thankful for the guidance and understanding from everyone at some point of time or another. My life has been considerably better for having met you all even if only through the internet. I hope to do so in person sometime. I never got to thank Matt for his advice and wish that such a need does not arise with anyone else anytime soon but thank you. Everyone. Really, thank you for everything.

I wish I had that kind of money.

Mom gave me NyQuil instead of DayQuil as I was walking out the door this morning. Have to give 4 back to back tests so can't pass out on the desk either. Blaaah.

	Thank you Vicki.

its 1600 at adorama right now. it was sold new for $2000 around christmas time including the 24-85 lens which usually sells for $350 new. either looking for a good deal or at least a new body for around $1650. i don't mind getting a stop gap for now and waiting until the next sale to grab a d600 assuming I know when it is. If nothing is supposed to come up until thanksgiving again then i'll just buy now. i was simply asking in case people knew of trends as to when these sales pop up.

Anyone know when the next big camera sale will be? I know black friday and christmas are big ones but wondering if there are any before June end.

A question for those who have a zf.2 35/f2 distagon. Is there any play in the aperture ring? I recently acquired a used one and wanted to make sure it was an anomaly before contacting the seller. Unless it is locked at f22, it moves back and forth a bit and makes a "tuk tuk" sound. Even at f22, it still makes noise but less that at other apertures when rocked back and forth. Is this normal behavior or something wrong with the lens? The focus ring is smooth and there is no play with it. -
	Happy belated birthday Bonnie!

Went to my first every hockey game tonight. Had center ice seats right next to the penalty box. The Panthers came out swinging But the Canadiens scored within the first minute Then the Panthers got into penalty trouble early But they kept getting into more And then the Canadiens finally won But I was the one who won the most Went to look at apartments for med school earlier in the afternoon and then had dinner at Bahama Breeze. All in all, a lovely date night.

Two assholes backed into the front of my car in the school parking lot today. Didn't leave a note. Different heights of damage and different paint chips. Then on my way to lunch the rear bumper got completely smashed by this 83 year old lady who got out of the car and said, "oh, I'm sorry. I thought my foot was on the brake but I put it on the accelerator by accident. Please don't call the police - lets figure this out." I waited and she pulled out $80 from her wallet and said that should cover it. I called the police. God damn old people.

Must be nice to just have oodles of cash in the back and just give replacements. -
External hard drive AirPort Extreme works better for me than any NAS I've tried. Have you looked into that? NAS systems seem too expensive to me for what they do. A friend has a synology unit but I can't remember which model. I can ask.

Marc, all my drives are connected to an AirPort Extreme so needed to format them anyways as ae doesn't read ntfs drives. Gene ill try that later. Thanks. -

Thanks gene. I just copy pasted the files over. No fancy program. Macs can read ntfs drives but not write to them. I wanted to write to the drives as well hence the entire cascade format event. I might not have explained correctly. The files are unhidden and I can see them after using the command you posted. I don't want to delete them. I simply want to change their attributes from hidden to unhidden permanently so they look like any other file and then turn off the see hidden files feature. I want to keep all the files - just have them all be visible in regular view mode. I wouldnt even care if to open them I didn't have to right click on them every time and select a program manually where with regular files one can just double click. -

Gene here is what I did. Purchased brand new drive A and formatted it to OS X journaled. Copied everything from ntfs formatted drive B to drive A. Files on drive A are hidden. Need to unhide them. Files on drive C were then copied to drive B and drive C was formatted. Cascaded this until all drives were formatted to OS X format. I used the disk utility in mountain lion. All drives have only one partition. -
	Hahahahahahaha. That is awesome.

ryan, MAX is freeware and does batch conversion. Just leave it running overnight and your library should have been done by the morning. Saves you $10 and fidgeting around with an unnecessary app.
