  1. External hard drive AirPort Extreme works better for me than any NAS I've tried. Have you looked into that? NAS systems seem too expensive to me for what they do. A friend has a synology unit but I can't remember which model. I can ask.
  2. Marc, all my drives are connected to an AirPort Extreme so needed to format them anyways as ae doesn't read ntfs drives. Gene ill try that later. Thanks.
  3. Thanks gene. I just copy pasted the files over. No fancy program. Macs can read ntfs drives but not write to them. I wanted to write to the drives as well hence the entire cascade format event. I might not have explained correctly. The files are unhidden and I can see them after using the command you posted. I don't want to delete them. I simply want to change their attributes from hidden to unhidden permanently so they look like any other file and then turn off the see hidden files feature. I want to keep all the files - just have them all be visible in regular view mode. I wouldnt even care if to open them I didn't have to right click on them every time and select a program manually where with regular files one can just double click.
  4. Gene here is what I did. Purchased brand new drive A and formatted it to OS X journaled. Copied everything from ntfs formatted drive B to drive A. Files on drive A are hidden. Need to unhide them. Files on drive C were then copied to drive B and drive C was formatted. Cascaded this until all drives were formatted to OS X format. I used the disk utility in mountain lion. All drives have only one partition.
  5. Hahahahahahaha. That is awesome.
  6. ryan, MAX is freeware and does batch conversion. Just leave it running overnight and your library should have been done by the morning. Saves you $10 and fidgeting around with an unnecessary app.
  7. a lot of my hard drives were formatted to ntfs. upon recently acquiring an airport extreme (and wanting to use it as a file server) i formatted all the drives to mac os x journaled format so the AE could recognize it. quite a few files were set to hidden on my windows machine which i can still view but i don't know how to unhide them permanently by changing the file permissions. they all sit in one folder. are there any tools that are available that can do it in a batch? failing that, are there any tools that allow my to do that one by one? right clicking on the folder and clicking on "get info" didn't yield anything of use.
  8. Panthers games never sell out apparently. Julie's favorite team is from Montreal and they are in town on a Sunday in March. She keeps talking about hockey so figured I'd surprise her. The box office was what was suggested the night of the game itself but I'll visit them this weekend to find out how things work.
  9. What are decent (albeit inexpensive) seats for a hockey game? Never seen it on TV or live so suggestions would be nice. Is ticketmaster the place the buy them or are they available for better prices elsewhere (at the mall, in person at the box office etc)?
  10. x100, f2, iso 200 either I have the worst luck with af or the zeiss lens really produce some very sharp images. i like it so far.
  11. god damnit. I was hoping it would be prohibitively expensive to make the decision easy.
  12. spoke with gf and she seemed excited at the prospect. i really wanted to make moa but finances didn't permit a cross country flight and room/board for the two of us. Atlanta is within driving distance so certainly doable. i checked and my all my finals end on 29th april and the classes I teach will have finals the following T/R so I am free for the weekend. Julie emailed her professors to find out when hers are (she is taking 2 online classes). If both of us are available I will start looking at hotels in the area. Is there a negotiated price for some hotel already? I faintly remember Trav mentioning something about the Mariott. I'd like to attend a meet before I start med school as I know once I start, I won't have time for anything. Hopefully this can work out.
  13. Hmmm. This might be during summer break for me...or finals week.
  14. Is that story real? I find it very unbelievable. If true, it is quite sad.
  15. Happy birthday sir.
  16. Happy birthday John. Best wishes to Anne.
  17. Pork tenderloin with basmati rice/red onions/hot sauce.
  18. She sounds better than some human companions. My best wishes to you Peter. I can't imagine a time like this being easy but try to think of all the fun you had with kitteh over the last 20 years. RIP Luvbug...
  19. /hears this in my head http://youtu.be/IZT5YUkxhYw
  20. Have you considered metronomes Ryan? Thin and can be built for not much by a local furniture store or cabinet maker.
  21. "Omg you can get a job for proving things with upside down triangles with circle and boxes with arrows through them? No wai!"
  22. I found that class infinitely more tedious than any math class I'd ever taken. I can appreciate the beauty and connections between seemingly different disciplines like algebra and analysis but I couldn't find anything in that class that made me smile and go - you sneaky son of a bitch, bravo. Perhaps it was the presentation of the material that was so dry. Maybe it was that the textbook was just filled with formulas and seemingly arbitrary rules that I could not relate to anything else. Everything I had learnt until then had at least some minute connection. Either I failed to see it with fin acc or the professor/book failed to show it to me. School I was at required another fin acc class to finish the MBA program. Never finished it. Maybe someday in the future ill go back and take the remaining 7 classes.
  23. The two devils have butt sechs and then you get pregnant with Keanu reeves. Not ideal IMHO.
  24. Financial accounting is how the devil gets inside of you. I hated that class so much. Also, tensor notation can suck it.
