  1. If they use the same sort of ceramic used in knives it will be much harder than a stainless steel one.
  2. I read 2SK389 on the BOM and have just wasted half an hour looking for it! Any ideas or tips as where to find the other trannies? Bdent doesn't have much, Counterpointe apparently doesn't ship to Europe...
  3. Is there any way to bend the pins to fit the pcb? The 2sk170 with the little heatsinks could be much better matched tough with enough quantities and patience.
  4. 2SK389 on ebay, do these look legit? Where are you guys sourcing the actives? Mouser has a few some of them, ebay has 2Sk389's, but the 2sa1968 aren't to be found, at least at those prices on Kevin's BOM.
  5. Are we still going ahead with the transformer group buy?
  6. I'm sure this has been discussed, but the trafo from SumR will have dual primaries for us 220v guys right? Kevin, any particular reason for going with Xicon resistors? Similar Vishay Dale RN60(CMF60) are a few cents cheaper than the Xicon ones. Probably no difference but they just look nicer! ps: link on the bom for the R5, R6 180ohm resistor links to a 120ohm resistor.
  7. So I am looking to buy a new turntable. I have been using my father's vinyl rig until now, but this brings me lots of constrains. He has a Rega P3 with RB300 arm and dynavector 10x5 cartridge. Phono Stage is an audio alchemy Vac-in-the-Box. I like the sound of it quite a lot and would be happy with a similar system, probably with a better phono stage(DIY), however this would set me back at 1080€ (about 1400$) for the P3 (new P3-24 version) plus 10x5 cartridge. While I have the money to buy this I have been thinking about getting a cheaper rig instead, something like a rega P1 or the pro ject debut III. These cost around 350€(500$) with cartridge included.(both have an orthofon OEM cartridge). Phono stage for either choice would be a VSPS DIY or something similar for now, and a pearl or something tubed later. I will eventually get something nicer in about 3-4 years, but need something until then. I will be listening to both rega TT's later this month but was looking for initial opinions, alternative choices, etc.
  8. ALO is the worse worst!! The guy is full of crap and is products are outright theft for what you get!
  9. I just ordered the Bill Evans Riverside Recordings Box Set. 22 LP's, January's going to be a fun month! Kind of Blue is the Jazz record indeed Steve!
  10. Got tickets for Herbie Hancock, on the 7th December! Should be great!
  11. I'm on the other side of the pond, otherwise I would offer assistance!
  12. Great news Shelly! Happy Turkey day to everybody!! I learned a lesson today: when talking to a pilot, do not confuse a tire burst with a fire burst! nothing happened in the end, just a big apparatus with all the firetrucks! Better safe than sorry though
  13. It wouldn't work I guess. I'm going to do a few for training but I want to use dovetail for building small gewelry boxes and cigar boxes. Craig, any difference between a "regular" backsaw and one made for dovetailing?
  14. Bought a backsaw, coping saw blades, a set of chisels! I'm going to start making dovetail joints by hand, wish me luck! Dr Wood, any useful tips?
