    Storm Watch

For the second day in a row yesterday my region was hit with intense thunderstorms that dropped more than an inch of rain in 30 minutes. My office had 4 inches of water in parts of the first floor and the whole island lost power for over an hour. It's pretty difficult to lose power when commercial power is your backup power and you have your own power plant. Not good. Nothing so far today...
  2. Yikes. File a police report?
  3. I got my shipment from Bisbee today, oh mama that's some good smelling coffee. Looking forward to the first cold-brewed batch this weekend.
  4. Yes, cold-brewed coffee rocks. I just ordered a pound of the peaberry and sidamo, looking forward to some non-starbucks beans.
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. [2] pro, [2] normal for me please.
  7. I should try to get her to try them again. Next time I make these I'll make half and half so I can eat the corn if she really doesn't like them.
  8. Yes, the wife does not like corn tortillas. . They were still excellent, if non-authentic.
  9. Enchiladas Verdes with chicken - I marinated the chx in lime juice, olive oil and a few spices and the sauce is made from the homemade salsa that I made yesterday.
  10. This!
  11. Shelly, Might be worth trying power over ethernet type devices if the wireless performance is unacceptable.
  12. Not quite yet but just made some fresh salsa for later.
  13. Congrats Dinny!
  14. If only its function were that simple. I haven't felt entirely well for a few days so with a little luck I'll feel good enough to have a nightcap tonight.
  15. Built a little spreadsheet at work. The main function looks something like this: =IF($D6>V$5,0,IF((DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m")+1)>$G6,0,((IF(V$5<$D6,0,IF($B6="DB",VLOOKUP($G6,DB!$B$3:$BD$9,IF($D6>V$5,0,DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m"))+2),VLOOKUP($G6,DBB!$B$2:$BD$9,IF($D6>V$5,0,DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m"))+2))))*$C6)-$U6)) I need a drink.
  16. ^^^ Approve! Me: Metric - Synthetica
  17. Sigur Ros - Valtari
  18. Happy birthday guys!
  19. Hell yes, I need to find this.
  20. Dinny, To shoot action you have to get out of Auto mode, for sure. There are Scene modes in the D7000 and one of them is sports so you could try that but otherwise at a minimum you force the camera to shoot at much higher shutter speeds than it would normally select. The easy way to do this is to jack the ISO (which is one of the great strengths of the D7000) up to something like 3200 or probably even 6400 and then shoot in Shutter priority mode with the shutter set on 1/500 or something like that. I'd then take a few test shots in various lighting conditions and see if I was getting any underexposed results. The other way to do it would be to again set the iso as previously mentioned, run the camera in Aperture priority and run the lens wide open or one stop down (to get a bit better sharpness, but that'll vary by lens) and again shoot some test shots to see what you're getting for shutter speeds. The first method is the most likely to freeze action but may result in underexposed images, the second will get you proper exposure but might slow the shutter to the point of not freezing action. Anyway, I'm a crackerjack at recommendations but also suffer from forgetting 99% of this shit when I go to shoot.
  21. Bummer, this is the weekend that I'm riding the 2-day century in Northern NH otherwise I'd be interested.
  22. Awesome, Al. Really glad you got to spend a day like that with your dad.
  23. Tough run of luck, Mike.
  24. Very cool, Dinny. It kind of reminds me of standing on Ford Island (which is located in Pearl Harbor) listening as a submarine came back into port. All of the ships currently in dock welcomed her home with blasts from their main horns. It was pretty surreal.
  25. Says "Susan1"...
