beach-ish rental for a long weekend in august in the vicinity of southern maine
This late in the season it's going to be slim-pickings Dan. Your best bet might be trolling the ME craigslist adds and looking for a cancellation. You're also almost guaranteed to have to take it for a full week and not get a full weekend out of it. Most rentals run Sunday to Saturday, at least any of them that I've seen or looked at. Who knows what you might find though, but that's my experience.

And now what did you do TODAY?
Jacob, I'm not all that familiar with Portland but have some friends who've spent a lot of time there so I'll try to get you some info soon. There are certainly great places to visit in Portland (the old port, specifically) and a whole lot more within easy driving distance: two examples would be Portsmouth, NH about an hour to the South and Acadia National Park a bit over an hour further up the coast. If you do swing down towards Portsmouth I'll give you my contact info, that's where I work 5+ days a week. I should also be able to give you some off the beaten path beaches to visit as well if you want to chill out during the day time. Good seafood won't be hard to come by.
- Happy Birthday Scott!

Storm Watch
A band of storms just rolled through, not nearly as bad as yesterday but still enough to overwhelm the storm drains and cause limited, short-term flooding. Seems to be over for now although looking at the radar map a cell is pretty much right over my house...

Storm Watch
For the second day in a row yesterday my region was hit with intense thunderstorms that dropped more than an inch of rain in 30 minutes. My office had 4 inches of water in parts of the first floor and the whole island lost power for over an hour. It's pretty difficult to lose power when commercial power is your backup power and you have your own power plant. Not good. Nothing so far today...

Coffee Drinkers? (or other hot beverages)
I got my shipment from Bisbee today, oh mama that's some good smelling coffee. Looking forward to the first cold-brewed batch this weekend.

Coffee Drinkers? (or other hot beverages)
Yes, cold-brewed coffee rocks. I just ordered a pound of the peaberry and sidamo, looking forward to some non-starbucks beans.

Which Cooking Are You?
I should try to get her to try them again. Next time I make these I'll make half and half so I can eat the corn if she really doesn't like them.

Which Cooking Are You?
Yes, the wife does not like corn tortillas. . They were still excellent, if non-authentic.

Which Cooking Are You?
Enchiladas Verdes with chicken - I marinated the chx in lime juice, olive oil and a few spices and the sauce is made from the homemade salsa that I made yesterday.

Streaming wirelessly to PS3
Shelly, Might be worth trying power over ethernet type devices if the wireless performance is unacceptable.

What are you EATING right now?
Not quite yet but just made some fresh salsa for later.

Congrats Dinny!

And now what did you do TODAY?
If only its function were that simple. I haven't felt entirely well for a few days so with a little luck I'll feel good enough to have a nightcap tonight.

And now what did you do TODAY?
Built a little spreadsheet at work. The main function looks something like this: =IF($D6>V$5,0,IF((DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m")+1)>$G6,0,((IF(V$5<$D6,0,IF($B6="DB",VLOOKUP($G6,DB!$B$3:$BD$9,IF($D6>V$5,0,DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m"))+2),VLOOKUP($G6,DBB!$B$2:$BD$9,IF($D6>V$5,0,DATEDIF($D6,V$5,"m"))+2))))*$C6)-$U6)) I need a drink.
